Hello Sports Lovers,
Badminton is a Sport where, winning a medal in Olympics takes atleast 6 matches (or 7 matches based on players in each group at group stage) to be won and if one fails at round of 16 or Quarterfinal or even in semifinal, medal is not assured as there will be a Bronze medal match.
Compared to that, other Sports such as shooting, Boxing or Wrestling will have less number of matches but there is also a risk that, if you lose one match before semifinal, you will be out of the contest.
Considering these points, Indian women's Badminton player PV Sindhu's Bronze medal yesterday weighs a lot for us Indians also due to the fact that, almost all the medals hopes except for 3 4 different categories of Sports, all others have either exited at qualifiers such as shooting, athletics, table tennis and tennis or quarterfinals stage such as in many Boxing matches.
PV Sindhu, the Rio Olympics Silver medalist and current World Women's Champion was carrying hopes of Billions of Indians and was the number 1 medal hope when she entered into Tokyo and she lived up to her expectations until semifinals where lost to runner up Tai Tzu-Ying.
But she recovered well from the emotion of losing in a semifinal to come back strongly in Bronze medal match, where, she beat Junior Olympics women's Gold medalist He Bing Jiao rather convincingly with score reading 21-13, 21-15.
PV Sindhu after the Bronze at Tokyo Olympics, became the Second Indian and First Indian Woman to win back to back medals in Olympics as she had won a Silver in Rio Olympics.
She will be the talk of the town in India for many days now and a BIG congratulation to her for making India proud once again with another medal at Tokyo.
I just hope that, Sindhu's performance inspires the remaining athletes to raise their game against World class players to bring home few more medals for India.
Other Indians Remaining in Olympics:
We already know that, India is assured of atleast a Bronze in women's Boxing event as Lovlina Borgohain has already reached the semifinal in women's welterweight category and will be up against Busenaz Surmeneli in the semifinal tomorrow and she won't be happy to settle with a Bronze and hopes for a better show tomorrow to make it to the finals.
Apart from Lovlina Borgohain, India is hoping to see back those glorious days of our Hockey teams as both men's and women's team have made it to the semifinals.
Indian men's Hockey team is at their best in recent times and barring their match against mighty Australians, India has won all the other matches including the Quarterfinal against Great Britain.
India will be up against group B toppers and Hockey World Cup winners Belgium in the semifinals tomorrow.
In the women's Hockey, India, for most part of the group matches, weren't sure of a berth in Quarterfinal, but, not only they made it to Quarters but also stunned 2 times Hockey World Cup winners Australia in a shocking result today to reach the semifinals and hoping for a medal.
Indian women will be facing Argentinian women in the semifinal and here are the wishes to them as well to bring another medal for India.
Incidentally, Indian women have entered the semifinals in Olympics for the First time and the win against Australia has made that possible.
Other than Boxing and Hockey, Indians will also be in action in Wrestling from tomorrow and India hopes to win few medals in Wrestling with Vinesh Phoghat and Bajrang Punia will be the medal prospects for India.
Another medal hope will be the Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra who will be in action on Fourth August and he is touted as a strong contender to bring a medal for India.
So, still there are few more chances of medals for India and any medal added from now onwards will be a big bonus for India considering the failure of shooters, boxers and other athletes.
China has widened the gap in Gold medals tally with a total of 29 medals and United States is in Second position with 22 Gold medals, while the hosts Japan are in Third position with 17 Gold medals.
That's it from me now and the BIG India vs England 5 test series will be starting from Fourth August and I will be back with my analysis of both the teams and possible XI and other news by tomorrow.
Thanks and Have a great Saturday :)
