RE: Passion, effort and the right attitude

Being a former paratrooper, I am the more "Point and Shoot" type. And to be honest I was happy to knock down the target at 300 meters qualifying, range wasnt my strong suit but I could knock anything down at 150 meters with ease and efficiency. Now, those days on the range really crushed my passion for shooting and even though i still enjoy i never got into it as much as i did before the Army. I still find my self fascinated by posts and articles. @jackmiller just shared an awesome youtube video comparing m16 and the Steyr AUG and i was captivated by the testing done by the Australian army. I would love to shoot one of those. But I am very similar with you in the fact that I have broad range of interest and i commit to them with passion and curiosity. My newest being the guitar. In a way it has replaced my relationship with the gun as you cant so easily go shooting every weekend here in Germany (though its doable). I love the discipline and theory needed to learn guitar and that my new passion. Its good we live in a world that allows us to pursue our passions (to some extent). Happy Monday!

The F88 Austeyr (the AUG you mention) is a nice rifle. A little odd looking but effective. A decent personal rifle for sure. I've fired a few and really enjoyed it each time. I didn't realise @jackmiller did a post on it, a pitty he didn't use The Pew community to post it. Still, no one really knows about it I guess.

I like shooting, guns, but have so many more things in my life that I am passionate about and interested in...I like being multi-faceted. I can understand how shooting isn't really something you're necessarily passionate about now...I mean you were bangin' away for so long...Time for other things, like carving it up on that axe!

I'm looking forward to some videos when the time is right and you wish to.

Monday deployed well, just making some pasta for dinner right now...Spaghetti with arrabiata sauce. Have a great Monday yourself.

Nahhh not a post bro, just a link in the Vets server, in a room which is dedicated to sh#t flinging.

So it was more so me being me and poking the bear!

Here is a link to the vid:

& again, just to poke at the bear:

"Can't deny the facts!"

Just recently I was asked by a person from the USA about what I recommend as far as "What to own? for self defence (although that is a broad topic), I suggested the following:

AR15
Glock 19
Ruger Mark IV 22/45 lite
Ruger 10/22 takedown (with the Magpul backpack kit).

Justification:
all 3 of the ammo are available anywhere in The USA.
The list covers almost all basic needs (depending on the situation)
Maintenance is minimal.
Reliability is proven.
Costs of ammo are minute compared to most other ammo out there on the market.

So yeah, when asked, I think about the answer and justify it.
Although I did have to sleep on this one, as the person asking is "new" to it all and would probably be lead down the rabbit hole of acquiring firearms that would break the budget and not be effective in a SHTF situation.

Unfortunately, I am not a mind reader.

Damn it, here I go, down that rabbit hole myself. Could chit chat on the topic for days.

Cheers.

Ah ok, my mistake. Groups like that can be interesting and can make for some spirited conversation for sure. I like your self-defence options...There's so much to choose from though I guess.

It all really depends on the location.

Right before selling our house (former home) in a former eastern block country, I made sure that everything I had was left in good hands.

Since then, I am somewhat of a minimalist as far as things go.
I do not have any intention of hoarding again.

Plus, what I learned was that the basic needs need to be covered both immediate and long term.

Which is why any list I put together for anyone is always a basic common sense list + a .22L plan B list.

Which is why I would for example recommend a rifle that uses the same round as an AK in the eastern block nations.
Or an AK if it is legally possible ;)

As for the Glock 19, will always endorse it, had one for years, used it many a time in various conditions and as far as I'm concerned, it does the job it is designed for, without any fear of failure. (I am BIAS).

Have to stipulate, before moving, I was somewhat of a hoarder and only realized it once I had to take care of the items I possessed. That was literally a rude awakening to the reality of needs vs wants.

I guess we all learn things as we go through life, but handing over some of them was literally heart breaking as some were more so "very personal memories".

Bugger it, such is life.

As far as guns go I focus on having a little of everything. I'm a long range shooter at the core, however make sure I'm very proficient at other forms of shooting and guns. It seems to make sense. I just did a post about this actually. (The various guns I shoot.) I also make sure my wife is proficient in the use of all of my guns which I think is sensible. I've got quite a few and it is tough at times to keep her at a good level of comfort with them but we make it work.

I like Glock's but have never owned one. I have a couple CZ 9mm semis though, the Shadow 2 and P-09 with the polymer P-09 being the most like a Glock. It will fire in a barrel of mud. Accurate and whilst not the smoothest gun to shoot it can work really nicely. I shoot IPSC handgun with both.

Ohhhh man, we all "justify" our procurement "needs".

& yeah, I had the Mrs go down to a range and learn the basics on a Zastava tt which was a 7.62, later I converted it to a 9mm.

Piece of crap.

Then later on I took her to the range myself and had her get the know how on what we had in the home.

As for the rest of the collection, that was just me being me and yeah "a bit of everything" was the logic applied when acquiring items.

One of the bonuses of having lived in a former war zone.

Well, I'm glad I have never lived in a war zone, but considering my hobbies and interests could possibly fare well if Adelaide became that way. Lol. I'm...prepared, if you get my drift. Lol.

I remember Adelaide fairly well, got stabbed at 4 roses back in the day. Many, many moons ago!

Monday was a success here as well! Trimmed about 150 meters of brush away on the driveway played outside and chilled a little too!! I think it will be a long time before there are any videos online of me playing guitar!!! Lol. Maybe one day maybe you can bust out that bass and we can do a virtual jam 🤣👍🏻
