Wildfires and our air quality in North America.

Life in here is an interesting cycle, with its own challenges. We spend mostly from November to April waiting for the summer in the cold days. We dream about the warmer weather, the possibility of using my bike more and wearing shorts again. And when the warm weather finally comes, we remember that it also brings something that makes the air we breathe of lesser quality. We don't have many cars or factories, but the warmth brings wildfires, which makes an impact on our routine.

My city got into a wildfire before but it was before I arrived here. We are close to national parks and even if they are quite far, they can burn. Last year we had a bad wildfire in Jasper that consumed this beautiful national Park. Now again, the north of the province has a be wild fire in another location. We are talking about places with at least 5-6h of distance by car. But the smoke gets down here anyways once in a while.
The wildfires have been affecting the lives of people in here for a couple of weeks now, but two days ago the smoke got in here and we had 2 bad days of reduced visibility, even without clouds, the Sun dimmed out a bit. In addition, it also affects our breathing, kids, pets and those we some sort of lung disease are recommended to stay indoors. My throat starts to bother a bit, and the smell is challenging. That's for sure, it gets our environment less healthy for a while. It is weird that sometimes, even inside my office, I can smell the smoke.
There is also another fire in Saskatchewan a neighboring province on our east border The fire there is bigger, but we are lucky and the smoke only goes to the east, it is affecting even the east coast of the US. I saw pictures of New York that are so weird, with the city covered by smoke. The interesting part of North America is that while most of the North of the continent is getting lots of smoke, some parts of the South of the US is getting some sand from Africa. Yeah, that is difficult to imagine, but sand from the Sahara is arriving to North America. I can also imagine health problems due to the sand.

Despite of this temporary problem, I think that our environment health is way good, our biggest problem during the year is fighting against the extreme cold of -50oC and the warmth of 40oC during summer, which can easily faced with a good heating and cooling system at home and in our workplace. I think too much cold and too much heat is terrible for our health, in Brazil I used to suffer a lot while going to work or university and arriving at these places all covered by sweat. My first Ford Escort 86 didn't have an AC, so I used to drive with a dry and clean shirt in the passenger seat to change it when arriving at my destination. It is good that we can control some parts of our environment to maintain our health.

i can only imagine how big the fire was.
Did they say the cause of the fire?
Difficult to know! Here we had a fire caused by a cigarette in the river valley but it was controlled by the firefighters . Those bigger ones sometimes is a lightining strike! We have some thunderstorms that can cause them

I just learned today that Brazil can go as low as -5°c and now, Canada can go -50°c?
Wow... There are really levels to this cold. Wonder what it would be like in Russia and Alaska. Y'all are doing well.😇
Well i lived in brazil for 30 years and never been in à temperature bellow 10oC 🤣 i know that the south of brazil you can reach bellow 0 and even see some snow! Every country has that! Mexico also has this duality a country with nice warm beaches , where you can see snow in some places near mountains
hmmmm, i never give much thought to air quality or even the weather. I figure, there's not much I can do about it, other than to worry about myself. 😉😎🤙
Those fires really suck, smoke isn't good for the lungs for sure. Take your pick on the hot or cold, the hot and needing two shirts because of no AC in the car sucks! Stay healthy and out of that smoke as much as you can, and enjoy the sunsets. Smoke is great for those!
