Description from Strava: Decided to change it up and have a little explore on my run home earlier this evening. I left work a little late, but after finally catching up on all my emails, I was free to escape. The plan was for a longer effort, preferably of somewhere between 12-16km (and ideally closer to 16km if possible!)
I've done recent runs out to Branston, but didn't fancy that today. That trail heads East out of Lincoln, and loops down to where I live. And so I decided to make up a route on the West side of town instead.

Heading alongside Brayford Water
Its been a beautiful clear day today, and was shaping up to be a lovely evening to run in. Relatively warm too compared to just a few days ago. It wasn't until halfway down the high street, that I remembered a path that cuts across the fields between North Hykeham and Brant Road... maybe I could follow that, and then I can loop up through Waddington towards home

North Hykeham would have been a large village, but do to the relentless expansion of Lincoln, it's mostly a glorified suburb now. The route was boring urban streets, with plenty of traffic on the roads (rush hour of course)
But eventually I made it to the edge of North Hykeham, as you can see in the shot above. In the distance you can see a Ridge/Hill. Sprawling along the bottom of that is Brant Road, and then on the top (and in the middle of the shot) is Waddington.
Before that though, it was decidedly muddy
I shouldn't really be surprised due to how wet it has been, but I was still a little disappointed lol... I'm not wearing trail shoes, this is gonna be a tad slippy!

And sure enough, I spent the next 10 minutes, slipping and sliding, trying to avoid the worst of the mud. It was starting to be come a slog, until I looked behind me, to see the sun was starting to set
The view was pretty cool, and almost made up for the mud!

The final pic is definitely my favourite, and to get this I tweaked some of my phone settings to lower the exposure. This made the shadows darker, but meant youI could capture the true colour of the sky.
By the way, the water you see here is actually where the fields have flooded, so in hindsight I was lucky I could actually run here at all!
With that, I final made out of the mud in one piece, and then it was a short effort to head up the hill through Waddington towards home.
A really enjoyable route, but next time maybe wait a little so that the ground could dry out a little haha!
