dannewton just finished a 15.13km run, that lasted for 108 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 1311.0 calories.

Description from Strava: 20230415_113143.jpg

Well, that was a pleasant little run in the sun. It was gorgeous out there today, and I had been looking forward to getting out to complete a long-ish run this weekend. I was thinking about 20km, but decided that was too far too soon, and so went for just a 15km instead.

I was also thinking about going to parkrun first thing this morning, but promptly slept in, so I guess that was no lol. Instead I decided I would do some of the usual 20km route around the city of Lincoln, but to amend it slightly so it was for a shorter distance.

20230415_104107.jpg

I also had a bright idea of picking up something from one of the shops in town. My partner @dawnsart likes some 'fruit spread' which she likes to have in sandwiches. She was running low, so was looking for a new tub, and the only shop we have found it in is a tiny little health shop in Lincoln.

It can be bought online, but we refuse to pay £5.00 postage for a £2.00 item!!

We popped into town last weekend but the shop was shut due to Easter. As I was going to be passing through town today, I thought I'd pop in to see if there was any.

So with my running vest on (and some cash) I headed out for the run. It began as usual running out of the village and down the hill...

20230304_115233.jpg

...and then when I arrived at Lincoln High Street, I turned off to head along Triton Road. When I got to the end of Tritton Road, I took a right and meandered through some side streets to arrive at:

20230415_111104.jpg

Greens Health Food Shop

Its a tiny little place, and one of the few independent family run shops in Lincoln. I'm genuinely surprised to see that it is still in business, but obviously its found it's niche and is doing something right!

I quickly found the tub of fruit spread I was after, and picked up a flap jack thing, as I totally deserved a treat!

While paying she looked at my shorts and tshirt and asked if I had cycled in to town, and I told her I had run in today. And that then turned into a 15 minute chat on local running routes, and then talking about barefoot running of all things (she was currently reading Born to Run and had recently purchased some Vibram barefoot shoes). It was quite a nice conversation (perhaps that's why they are still in business!)

Fruit Spread acquired, it was time to carry on with the run.

I had decided that I would continue cutting across town until I hit the Water Railway, which is something I have run along on previous runs. I usually join it further up, but to day I was going to hit the start point in Lincoln.

20230415_113116.jpg

It really was a lovely day out there, and by this point I was starting to get a little bit warm in the sunshine!

After 15 minutes, I arrived at the bridge. This is where I normally come down and join the path along the river, and today I was going to turn right onto it, which would then take me along the bypass and to home

20230415_120021.jpg

So there you go. A pleasant 15km run in the sun. Again its the furthest run since completing the marathon and everything still feels ok (although I noticed a tightness in my right calf as I was finishing). And I picked up some shopping at the same time which was useful, and also means I don't need to make a 2nd trip into town just to buy stuff.

Now it time for a shower, and then I will crack on with the rest of the day.

I may go for a little 30 minute run tomorrow, but not sure yet. I guess we shall see how my calf feels I guess!

Looks like a lovely route!
And that spread looks interesting.. I might try that some time.
Happy running!

Its not a bad route, a nice bit of variety to it at least!

I can't comment on the spread, other than it has the consistency (and colour) of marmite. It doesn't taste like marmite though, don't panic! 🤣

It was an unexpected conversation to say the least!

Reminds me that its probably a good idea to find a local running group/club. Its all very talking online on here and FB, but its not the same as spending with people in rea life.

Oh and while I'm here, thanks for the shout-out for Jeff Pelletier, I've spent the last few evenings binge watching so many of his videos

Your welcome, he is good. You have see the ginger runner Barkley marathons doco. I think it is on youtube and netflix. We also find most parkruns have facebook running group which meet on different days have less commitments and cost involved than running clubs.

Only 15km? Tsk tsk!

:D

That was a great couch run for me. Well shared.

p.s. I actually ran a bit last week! Tiny bit, but it's a start. You're a good influence. 👍🏻

Happy Monday, fellow traveler 🌼

Only 15km? Tsk tsk!

I know! I was desperate to go out for longer (really miss a proper long run) but i didn't want to over do it. As it turns out 15km is too much (or maybe the big hill was too much) and I'm now injured.

boo, hiss, etc

Really annoying. I've done something to the calf muscle in my right leg. I can't push off it properly (ie if i stand on my right leg and try to extend onto tiptoes... I can barely do it). I can still walk ok, but no active jumping/running. I've opted for as much rest as I can manage for now to see if that settles it, which is taking ALL my willpower.

p.s. I actually ran a bit last week!

But yay! go you with some actual running. Find a pretty location, in the early morning sunshine and you'll be addicted before you know it! :-)

Oh gawd no! 😕

That sucks dude!!! Eish...

What are you gonna do to stay sane while you heal?! What plan do you have?

You're gonna have to let that heal properly for real. And you say "something to my calf muscle" so I assume you've been a good "addict" and not gone to see a physio.

Please make an appointment today before it maybe gets worse. They have great exercises to rehabilitate different areas of the body nowadays. Very helpful!

Acupuncture could help as well. Works like a bomb for me, but we have a real Chinese doctor in Cape Town who is an absolute legend. And magician possibly. 👀

Though he just smiles and tells me it's not him and my body knows what to heal. And he's only facilitating that.

Not responding to anything else until I hear feedback from your physio and a plan.

The end.

Please take care of yourself. You're awesome and you're worth it.

Please take care of yourself

Um... I'm not very good at that, can you tell?

Its kinda feeling better than it was, but still niggling at me that I could do with an educated opinion. I'm gonna see how the weekend goes, and then make decision if I need to see someone next week.

I'll give the accupuncture a miss though! not a fan of needles!

Dude. Dude.

I work in recovery. I know full well you didn't go and won't take care of yourself. So I'm here to say off you go asap.

Please.

Because if it worsens it's just worse. And if you treat and start to rehabilitate it sooner it heals sooner. See?

Wondered if you'd been today. So thanks for letting me know.

Yeah I know, I know... but nagging me generally doesn't help, I kinda need to work through this at my own pace...

I've now given it 7 days of rest, all pain has gone while walking. Tried a very little run, pain promptly reappeared after 40 meters. Turned and walked home. Have just sent email to local physio with an explanation of the problem and a request for an appointment for further help.

This the first time I've ever gone to physio and is the first time I've ever had a 'sports injury' other than the broken ankle 10 years ago which was very obviously broken and needed an immediate trip to A&E

Oh boy.

Yeah. I know. I also do the exact opposite of what I'm told to do. Still

I've never worked that dynamic out in full. Wonder what that is...

I'll nag suggest stuff anyway. Because I like you and I'd miss you around here.

And your runs are content related. So...

I think it's doctors. For me. I don't like going.

Okay then. Wonder what it is.

They're pretty good with this stuff now. Quickest way back so good on you.

p.s. I've been avoiding calling the dentist and telling them they may not have fixed a tooth properly. Living on paracetamol

See? No judgment here!

I've never worked that dynamic out in full. Wonder what that is...

Weird isn't it. I've been all set to do something, and then my Dad says "you should do that", and then I decide I no longer want to do it. Is it just rebelling against being told what to do? It can't be that simple surely?!

Maybe we just take it personally, instead accepting that people want to (mostly) help?

Feel free to nag suggest stuff... I may or may not listen initially, but you'll probably be planting seeds in future decisions I make 😅

Oh I will. I know from personal experience that's how it works for us rebels without a clue 😂

Sometimes someone has told me summink and I've blown it off in a huff. Then a couple of years later... "Aaaaaah..."

Wish I'd listened sooner more often. Gawd I could've saved myself years.

But yes. We do need to walk our own way and figure things out for ourselves.

Maybe it's just rebelliousness. Perhaps it's lack of trust? Sometimes I just want things to be different and refuse to accept things for sure. Possibly more and a combination of many things.

Just take care of yourself :D

Maybe it's just rebelliousness.

Maybe its pride and we just perceive it as criticism, no matter how genuine and well meaning the advice may be.

Just take care of yourself :D

I will... try ;-)

Oh. Yes. Great observation!

I'd go deeper though. What's under that?

Not today though. Super tired and am taking a day off for self care. Worked through last weekend and all weekends for a while.

Must rest! (But I have so much I wanna / and need to do)

No. Must rest!

But...

See? "I give myself some very good advice but..." - Alice, Alice's Adventures...

BEEF on Netflix btw. I may actually watch it again 👍🏻

Stay you :D

Just trying to be as efficient as possible!

I use a 'running vest' or 'race vest'. Basically a small backpack that is made of stretchy material and fits very snugly, which means it doesn't bounce much when running. It has a million pockets including some on the straps on the front for easy access. If you search google you will be swamped with a million brands and options all following very similar design principles

check out this post where I talk about my 'vest' a little more, and check this youtube video for more detail
(I have the 10 litre version)
