Weekly update: more running to work, and a day out in the sunshine

Time for another weekly update on my running (and general activity stuff). I missed the update last weeks cos I was lazy, but feeling a little more motivated for this week.

And once again its been another active week as you can see below. Monday I ran into work in the morning, and ran the same distance back home in the evening. I did the same again on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

With those 4 days of commuting to work, I take the Wednesday as a rest day, where I take the bus into work and back. This week I decided to walk back home from work on Wednesday afternoon, to do some more active recovery (it helps recovery of the regular running in, plus I also enjoy the walk to be fair!

With my busy work week over, its now time to enjoy the weekend. Today should of course be parkrun day, but I decided instead to go out for the day with my partner. She has been home from Uni for the past 6 weeks, and we still haven't managed to have a day out together

doesn't help that I work Mon-Fri, and she works Sunday... there is only one day a week available, and we've been sorting other house stuff out on previous Saturdays

Today I was determined for us to do something together

First up was a trip down to the South of Lincolnshire to visit Morkery Wood... we'd never been before so decided to check it out.

Its an large bit of woodland, I think it used to be owned by some local business, but has now been left for wildlife (there were proper paved roads, and what looked like house foundations). Other than that, it looked quite wild, and was a nice place to walk around.

The only issue was it was obviously the local 'dog-walking' destination, as there was dog poop everywhere, especially on the main paths.

Once we headed onto the smaller, quieter paths, it was cleaner, and we did seem some interesting inverts and other insects :-)

It was just a short walk, as nearby (ie a 2 minute drive away) was another nature reserve...

Tortoiseshell Wood, is managed by the wildlife trust, and was much smaller. It also had no parking area, so we had to ditch the car on the side of the road. This wasn't ideal, although on the plus side, the awkward parking situation evidently deterred the local dog walkers, as there was no dog poop in sight!

It was in 2 halves... there was a pretty wildflower meadow to walk through, and then there was a small (and slightly cramped) wood at the far side of the meadow

There was plenty to see, and lots of different bees, butterflies and beetles to look at. I did take a proper camera with me, so keep an eye out for a bigger write up of our day exploring soon

It had been a lovely day out, although by the time we got to the end of the 2nd reserve, we were starting to get hot and bothered. In the UK we are in the midst of another mini-heatwave, with temps today forecast to be over 30C. We had planned to stay out all afternoon, but by 2pm we had had enough!

Once home, I need to go take a quick shower, as I'm now going to visit my brother for the rest of the evening. His leg is getting much better now, but there is still mobility issues, and he still needs some support from the family (and its my turn tonight to help out!)

Tomorrow, I will go for my final run of the week (so I can hit my 60km weekly target) and then hopefully I can find some time to sift through and edit todays photos... and then before I know it, Monday will come around and the whole cycle will start again!

How are the legs? Do you feel they have adapted to the double runs and 60km per week. It seems to take me for ever to adapt to any small increases nowadays.
