Morning Run: Minus 4C
steevc just finished a 7.05km run, that lasted for 42 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 483.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
I nearly did not go out today. From the comfort of my warm bed I checked the weather and it said -6C with freezing fog. I took a look out of the window and it did not look that bad, so I decided to run anyway.
It was still below freezing so I needed my hat and gloves again. I did not want to hang about, so just went for the usual loop around Fairfield. The paths were frosty, but did not feel too slippery. My Allbirds have pretty smooth soles, so I had maximum surface on the ground. Maybe that helps.
Most of the people I saw were dog walkers. Not many runners out this time. I just headed up the hill and tried not to think about the cold. I did not feel too bad really.
I listened to Bad Voltage (open source chat), the Drumeo podcast (working through the old episodes) and Late Night Linux (more open source). I like to keep up with what is happening in various fields and podcasts are great for this.
I am participating in a Strava challenge with some Hive folk to clock up 2023km over this year. I may be behind schedule on that, but I am keen to do more running that last year. I will have to look at doing some walks and cycle rides too.
Have a great day.

That is some challenge man, would that be 2023km each, or as a collective?
Great stuff though, you have alot of self motivation and disipline to get yourself out on the days you'd rather stay inside in the warmth haha fairplay!

That is each. Some people will do it easily as they run or cycle just about every day. I would hope to run at least 1500km this year. I could log every walk to work, but I'm not that worried about it. These things are just for fun anyway.

Wait... that's 5.5 km EVERY SINGLE day. Damn, that would be impressive discipline-wise. I mean, even 1500km is pretty nice. That's something my target is going to be. I'm not really a fan of running haha
I tend to run 3 or 4 times each week. Some of those will be 15km+, so I should be able to do 1500. Other people do run every day, but we each do what works for us. Not everyone is a runner and I wasn't until a few years ago. I just find it a convenient way to get my exercise.

Definitely a great way to exercise. I prefer shorter runs followed by core body training, only 3 times a week. The rest of the week is more focused on yoga/stretching, which helps to keep me energized since I sit most of the day.
I sit a lot too. I hope the running helps balance things out a bit.

You're smashing your training at the moment and getting stronger every day.

From the month of August 2022, the Strava2Hive leader board will be determined by "calories burned"!
This Weeks Leader Board(Top 5):
It was a late night last night due to a school board meeting that went long. I didn't want to get up early this morning either. I did and I did a 12 minute routine that was more intense than some of the half hour workouts I do. It kicked my butt!
Well done. I think finding motivation can be hard at times. I'm proud that I have kept up my running for this long. parkrun and the Hive community help keep me going.
That is pretty cool. I am glad I got up too even though my bed was so cozy. My new boss is a "streak runner". He has been running at least one mile per day or something like that for the past several years. I was pretty impressed when I heard him say that.
I'm not sure I need the extra pressure of running every single day. There's a British guy who did it for 52 years! I think it's easy to get hung up on having to meet certain targets, but it still has to be fun for me.
52 years! That's nuts!
It's too late for me to start to try and beat that :)

-6! That's kind of nuts. I know your body heats up from the running so that's not an issue, but breathing in all that freezing air must hurt your throat. At least that was always my problem when I used to jog in freezing weather.
Anyway, good job pushing yourself to do it!
It's not too bad and I'm not out for long. It's due to get above freezing soon.

Even though it is so cold, you are still going for the running. This one decision changes a person's life. You have to do whatever you want every day, whether it is cold or hot, then the human body will be very fit. When it's cold here and when I go to the running, the park is empty, not many people come to running because of the cold.
I just wrote a blog entry about how do people handle cold runs and I think in your situation that you handle them pretty well!
