Morning Run: Slow and steady
steevc just finished a 14.48km run, that lasted for 93 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 1053.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
I have been reading about how running a bit slower can be better for performance in the long run. It allows your body to burn more fat. I tend to run by feel on my long runs, but this time I had my Garmin just showing heart rate and I tried keeping it around 150bpm. Previous long runs have averaged around 160, but according to what I have read I should be aiming to get it even lower. This was an experiment to see how it went.
I did actually achieve my aim with 90% of the run being in the 145-160 range. It meant pulling back a fair bit and so I was slower than usual, as I expected. At one point it zoomed up to 180 for no obvious reason and took a while to drop. For a while I could not seem to get much below 160, but it eventually settled down. It may be that the readings are not totally reliable.
I will keep trying this for a while with my usual intervals run and parkrun providing more intense workouts. I use parkrun as a measure of how I am doing.
It was a cold, but sunny morning. The extra light makes it more enjoyable and I can enjoy the local countryside. As usual I tried to stay away from busy roads. On the way back I ran around most of the parkrun course and then added an extra loop at the end to extend the distance. There are loads of snowdrops in the woods by the lakes.
I have not been too into following particular training regimes before, but I will see how it goes with this one.
Run free and stay well.

Its been very long run and really impressed, appreciated 👍
I think I achieve higher putting my socks on! Still solid time for the distance.
I generally run under 6min/km, but wanted to try this. It was an interesting exercise trying to run slower.

Did it not just feel too slow?!?!
I guess you get used to it after a while, and there's always the option of walking up hills I guess.
It didn't feel terribly slow, but it made me think about the pace more. Not much in the way of hills on this route. I'm still getting my heart rate up for a long time and that should still help my fitness.
I'm quite a slow paced runner, its nice to hear that it might be good for you. Sometimes Ifeel I am not going fast enough to be doing good!
I think anything that gets your pulse up is doing you good. Doing some short, more intensive, sessions is good too, but don't need to do that all the time. I am not looking to be a sprinter, so I need endurance.
Yeah, it's the moving about that works. Especially with home working!!
Excellent run. I’m happy if I get a 10 km walk in with Lola. It’s pretty slow going … We make lots of stops for Lola to play with her buddies along the way.
Nice place for a walk. We had some snow this winter that caused chaos, but it didn't last long. I don't have a dog, so need other excuses to get outside.
Yeah… I never had a dog my whole life, I was actually afraid of them … but 4 years ago, my wife and daughter broke me down and I relented. My kids even signed all kinds of contracts promising me that I would never ever have to walk the dog, pick up poop or give baths… 4 years later I am the principal dog Walker, bather and poop picker upper. But I have never had so much exercise in all my life. I am very happy they convinced me that we needed a dog. Best decision ever.
I see lots of dog walkers when out running. We have a cat and they don't need walking.
Now it's hot here in Pakistan, it will be a little difficult to paint here because of the heat, but I'm trying to keep it up. I live in City, the temperature here goes higher than Forty six in summer.
When it got to 38C here that was exceptional. We don't have a/c at home. You have my sympathy.
I recognise that watch! Different face though.. 😁
I was influenced by your recommendation. There are so many faces available. This is one of the ones in workout mode. I have a simple one to show the time plus a few other stats.

.Back when I did run more often, running slow was always a challenge. I mean, I didn't sprint, but I definitely always felt an urge to keep the pace up and I had this nagging feeling I was slacking if I got too slow.
Sometimes what you assume is best is not what you should do. For my casual running it may not matter so much really.
