Pesco una Anguila Europea🐍 / I catch a European eel🎣 (Es-En)

Greetings fellow anglers! Today we bring you part two of surfcasting fishing. I want to skip some tutorials, so I'll leave you the link to the previous post where I explain the steps to get started in the world of fishing with weights, a fairly simple and really economical technique compared to, for example, fishing with jigs or crankbaits where we need to buy very realistic and expensive lures, and often we lose them!🎣🐟

Notice how the times of greatest fish activity are between 6:00am and between 6:00-8:00pm, that is, at sunset and at night. I mentioned in the video that we expect to see more fish at this time compared to the previous video. Something I have prepared for you today is that by fishing at night we can catch a rather peculiar species.

I apologize for the photos, but it's difficult to take good pictures at night, and I don't want to spend too much time mistreating the fish. However, this post is more based on the video than the content itself! As you can see, it was a pretty productive night; we caught five fish. Three were corvinas, which in Spanish is "corvina"—anyone who eats these fish should know that. They don't have many bones, so I keep the adult specimens over a kilo.🐍🌏

In my opinion, summer is the worst time to fish, especially in the afternoon. It's too hot, and fish don't like high temperatures. Therefore, nighttime and early morning are the best times to fish, particularly when there's a lunar phase that influences the tides and fish behavior. The moonlight helps the fish find our bait.🙇🏻‍♀️🐟

Another species I caught today was a Sargo, a typical fish of the area. To keep it, it had to measure 22cm, and I let it go even though it weighed almost 1 kilo. As the night gets longer and the tide rises, we catch larger species. These predators like it when the water depth exceeds 1.5 meters.🎣🌏

For me, the bell is important for night fishing. Well, actually, I use it during the day too, but it's in the evening when you feel a fish touch the bait and you can try to hook it very quickly. This technique maximizes your chances of catching something. Also, the glove is essential because I can't see when I cast, and I don't want to hurt my finger. And lastly, and most importantly for me, the fluorescent rod holders allow me to see the tip of the fishing rod and warn other people, or even someone kayaking, not to get too close because I could hurt them when I cast the sinker.🐟🌏

They're typical of the Atlantic and popular in Portugal. As you can see in the photo, the gray ones are the adults, already in their reproductive stage. Ours is young, and its yellow color gives it away. We're definitely going to release this one. The illegal trafficking of juveniles for an aphrodisiac dish makes them more vulnerable, and they say they're good for making soups, but I've never eaten them and I don't want to, so I always release them back into the water! Of course, I have a bad experience because they leave everything covered in a secretion that looks like slime.🚩🎣

Consejos en pesca nocturna🦐🐟 / Tips night fishing🙋🏻‍♂️🎣

20260325_191556.jpg

=================================================================================

=================================================================================

En:

  • Always wear something that makes you stand out in the dark to avoid accidents📍

  • The shells are excellent for catching at night because they glow in the light📍

  • In my area there are many people kayaking; if you hear voices nearby, shout that you are going to cast a weight. Also, someone might be fishing 200 meters from the shore in a boat.📍

Good day, dear friend @biologistbrito.

I enjoy fishing with bait; although I have some lures, I rarely use them.

Eel is an excellent bait; here it's used to catch large fish, like dorado or surubí.

Night fishing is good here, especially when you're fishing for a variety of species. If you want to catch something big like dorado, you have to fish when the sun has warmed the water, around midday.

Thank you very much for sharing this information and your experience.

I think that eel would make better bait for bigger fish!
