Dangerous plant! : My Actifit Report Card: June 26 2025
While out and about walking today, I noticed this plant growing in the hedgerow. This is commonly known as giant hogweed. A very dangerous weed that can cause nasty burns and blisters if touched. It is very common in the UK, and I have been looking out for it on my visits to the countryside. Scientific name Heracleum mantegazzianum, it was introduced to the UK in the 19th century as an ornamental plant but spread quickly into the wider countryside, displacing other plants as it spread.
This plant is a specimen already taller than me! In fact, it can grow much taller than this. I have seen seen this plant grow to ten feet tall!.

The good thing is that the giant hogweed is unmistakable and very large so you can spot it early enough to avoid it.
