March 24, 2023 📝 The Brown Tail Moth
Whilst out & about my walk today I had the pleasure of spying with mine eyes two brown tail moth caterpillars making their way across the road 🙃
What a lovely sight to behold 😍
I certainly did stop to say hello to each of them 🥰 Wishing them well upon their way 🙏
These guys are the first to arrive this year, in my neck of the woods anyway 🌳
Here's a little ditty about the Brown Tail Moth 🐛
In the branches of the oak tree tall, The brown tail moth caterpillars crawl. Their sharp hairs can cause some strife, But they're part of the tree's rich life.
For as the moths chew through the leaves, The oak tree in response believes, It must make more leaves to sustain, And keep its place in the wooded chain.
And when the blue jays come to dine, On caterpillars, they will find. These birds of blue with striking crests, Will eat their fill, then fly to rest.
So the cycle of life in the woods, Is played out as it should. The brown tail moths have a place, In the balance of the wooded space.
So let us not forget their role, In the ecosystem as a whole. For they are part of nature's plan, A vital link in the chain of land.
