A good day. My Actifit Report Card: March 21 2026

Today has finally been the day. The restaurant opened. What a relief! And that it’s not my restaurant nor my responsibility is even more of a relief. Daniel, my administrator, got it all right. He talked a little to much and confusing, but that’s fine – he was very excited. For good reason. It’s a huge win for us to finally be able to use the back space of the bakery in a profitable manner. That will take quite a bit of financial pressure off me.

A lot of people came. How beautiful it is to see him succeed in my community! To observe how much he grew to cherish and value that community. How much the community values him and his contributions. His mom said the right words today – he’s not working for his own success. He’s working for the community’s success. That’s a totally different ball park, and not many realize how this leads, in the end, to both.

I had a great talk with a friend of mine. She had taken Lily to a café close by, as her own daughter and Lily love to play together. When the opening ceremony was over, I joined them, and that “coffee” turned into them coming over to our place, me preparing lunch for all of us, and my friend and I having a nice cold Gin & Tonic way too early in a very hot day, leading to many more conversations.

When we parted ways, Ellie picked us up and we went to her family’s place. Lily is growing fonder of the family every time we go there, and it’s an important counter weight to the disruption that the arrival of her mom caused. Lily calls my father in law her “abuelo”, and he gladly accepts that. He’s a real kiddo person, and they enjoy the time together playing soccer, cracking tocte (Andean walnuts), building card houses and so on.

It was a really good day.
