@dannewton just finished a 14.3km run, that lasted for 88 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 1111.0 calories.

Description from Strava: TLDR: Todays run was good for a couple of reasons...

1st - I finally managed to run more than my weekly 'target' of 60km,

2nd - after running the 'same route repeatedly for 2 weeks, today I finally managed to run a different route.

To explain this in more depth... I have set a total distance goal of 3000km for the year. This works at something like 57km per week, which I rounded up to 60km for simplicities sake. However, my goal didn't take into account of injuries and setbacks, so this week is the first time I have maanaged to complete the target I'd been aiming for so far this year

image.png

It does mean I am now significantly behind my target... for the end of May I should be approximately 1200km, so with 602.2km completed so far, I'm well behind.

Will I be able to make up the deficit? Ony time will tell, but as my start of the year total shows, I'll make sure to keep my health/fitness as the important focus, and not risk injury trying to hit the 3000km

As for the 2nd part, regular readers will know I've recently changed job roles, and as part of the many reasons for doing this... one bonus for running, is that I am now in a position to commute to work by running several times a week. This will help my consistency, and for any sport where endurance is the key aspect, consistent, regular training sessions are key to success

Starting 4 weeks ago, I started to replace various bus journeys with running, and I'm pleased to say that for the last 2 weeks I have managed to run to work AND run home, 4 days each week.

The schedule is
Monday - Run 2x 6.5km
Tuesday - Run 2x 6.5km
Wednesday - Bus in and out (although I have walked home the last 2 wednesdays)
Thursday - Run 2x 6.5km
Friday - Run 2x 6.5km

For the weekend I just want to do one longer session, for example 15km on a Saturday, but I will build this up to longer distances when the training needs it

1st Full Week:

For my first full week, I managed to run in and out 4 days... I was feeling pretty tired by friday afternoon's run, so decided to take the weekend of to rest and recover

2nd Full Week:

This week I missed out the run home on tuesday... this was neccessary as I had a physio apt at 5pm, and so I got a lift home so I could attend this. The other 3 days (Monday, Thursday, Friday) were completed as normal. And as I felt less tired after this week, I managed to go out for my weekend run :-)

For the 8 runs during the work week, you can see here how repetitive it is...

A morning run starting at 6:45am, down the hill, along the high street, up the hill to work

image.png

And then an afternoon run starting at 4:15pm, down the hill, along the high street, up the hill to home

image.png

I've picked this route as it is the shortest, and thus easiest, route to run... but my gosh it is boring. In time I hope to vary my route home, theres a couple of different options available which wouldn't add more than 2 or 3 km to to the distance, and would at least give me some variety.

Speaking of variety, it was sheer relief to finally run a different route today:

Todays run was a mostly circular route along some farm tracks into Branston, and then heading back along the bypass to get home. I did add a little bit extra along the bypass before running home, purely to make sure I ran the 14km needed to achieve my 60km weekly distance goal for the first time this year

And with all of that done, I can now start to get ready for a new work week, except just to spoil my schedule it is a Bank Holiday on Monday, which of course means no work. Instead of the double run planned, I'm just going to do a 12km route to get the run out of the way, and then I'll probably spend the rest of the day gardening/weeding in between rain showersDescription to follow....

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

3000km in a year is a lot and I won't get near that. If you can run to work then that's a great way to get in some extra training. Mine is that bit too far to do often, but I may try a run home when I feel up to it.

I hope you can keep it up and hit your targets.

Well last year I got close but was scuppered by an injury in nov/dec

I'm probably not gonna achieve it this year either, but I'll try to get close!

Yep I'm lucky the distance to work is only 4 miles, and so is manageable... I couldn't cope with much further to be fair.

I didn't even get to 1000km last year. I may manage it this year if I can avoid injuries.
