Description from Strava: It's time for the weekend long run. And I needed to get it done this time, as last week I procrastinated and wasted time, and didn't get round to it. Part of that was the weather, as it was grim last weekend, but it can also be attributed to boring routes.
I always seem to run the same routes, using the same few streets, and I guess I was lacking inspiration. This weekend I tried to preempt by this by try to put together something different:

I've done the first section of this route many times, and the final through Waddington is a regular place to run. The middle section from Triton Road through Hartsholme Park into North Hykeham is different.
Feeling suitably inspired, I headed out into the sunshine this morning....

look! some actual sunshine... I swear its been weeks since the sun has made an appearance, it's been so grey and gloomy for ages

heading down the hill towards town, not much traffic about but it is a Sunday afterall

There's a bridge on Dixon Street, which crosses the River Witham, not surprised at how high the river looks considering the amount of rain we've had recently

Take a left onto Triton Road, and then head via Skellingthorpe Road to...

...Hartsholme Park

The Park is a local visitor attraction, with a lake in the middle and some woodland walks/trails around the edge of the lake. It can be quite pretty in Summer and Autumn, although its proximity to the center of Lincoln means its often very busy, and there are much better places to visit in the area if you want to get some walks in the fresh air.

In the winter it's quieter, but also very muddy as it doesn't have proper hard packed/gravel paths like similar Parks elsewhere

View accros the lake, not bad, but better in the summer, it's a little grey here... my earlier sunshine has already disapeared!

getting increasingly muddy here, had to stop running and pick my way through the puddles, didn't want to risk slipping over here!

and finally the path joins back to a main road - Doddington Road, which will take me into North Hykeham

I very rarely run in North Hykeham, and now I remember why... its a boring suburban landscape, with miles of straight and boring roads

I'll only share one photo here, it was basically this view for about 4 miles!

Brant Road wasn't much better, but at least there was a pretty little church to distract me!

after Brant Road, was a left hand turn to head up the hill into Waddington

and after navigating the numerous roadworks...

...I was finally on the final stretch home.
In the end, the distance was over 23km (over 14 miles) and was the first time I've managed more than a Half-marathon distance since November last year. I do feel a little stiff now, but that was a good effort all round, and I definitely appreciated the change of scenery.
Now it's time to finish off some chores (yep, yet more ironing!) and then I can start getting ready to be back at work tomorrow. Just one week to goand then I get to enjoy some more Annual Leave!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)
