@dannewton just finished a 23.55km run, that lasted for 156 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 1931.0 calories.

Description from Strava: Its Sunday, and time for the 'Long Run' of the week. I usually do these on Saturdays, but for for some reason the last 4 weeks the long run has been done on a Sunday instead... it just seems to slot in better there at the moment.

Once again I am using the long run as an excuse to explore some different places to run, and todays session will see me heading into town briefly, before heading out alongside the Fossdyke Canal. I'll then pass through Skellingthorpe village, and down Birchwood Avenue, before finally heading back up the hill towards home.

This morning we have been some lovely sunshine, and with the promise of rain later on, I decided to head out and see if I could get this done before the rain arrived

blue skies!

...and with the sunshine, the warmer weather (highs of 14C) and these Daffodils in full bloom, it definitely felt like Spring. I even had my sunglasses on for the first time this year!

heading down past the River Witham, the water is really high still, but at least it looks like we are getting a much needed break from the rain. The Next weeks forecast is meant to be fairly mild, settled and most importantly, dry!

Brayford Pool, a very unappealing brown colour at the moment!

And now for the new section to explore... this stretch of water is called the Fossdyke. An entirely man-made construction, which connects the River Trent to the River Witham

the path next to the Fossdyke takes you out of the city, and while passing near a housing estate, I spotted this massive clump of Daffodils

continuing onwards, the path passes under the A46 Ring Road, and at this point I take a small path up to the bridge, where a small and narrow pedestrian section enables me to pass over the canal, and continue on towards Skellingthorpe

20260301_121104.jpg

path to Skellingthorpe - looks a bit boring and dead, but I'm sure this looks much better in the Summer

Joining the main road again, it was time to navigate a large and busy roundabout, before taking the detour through Birchwood

20260301_123933.jpg

Birchwood is a large suburban area, and in the middle of it is a small shopping centre. It's dominated by the local Co-op, but there are a number of smaller shops/units such as a Poundstretcher, along with a Post Office and some Cafe's

Ah, Couplands! I really fancy a pasty... it is lunchtime after all!

20260301_124741.jpg

Time for a break - a Sausage, Cheese and Bean pasty, plus a can of Coke.

With a much needed boost of energy, it was time to carry on heading for home. After leaving Birchwood, I continue down Doddington Road which takes me back towards Lincoln, and then a sharp right leads me back up the hill into Bracebridge Heath.

Another long run completed. Quite enjoyed the route today, as it had varied and interesting scenery for most of the way around. One to try again later in the year, and will look even better when there is more green stuff (leaves and flowers) to appreciate.

I've also got into the habit of listening to music on these longer runs, todays music choice was some epic melo-death metal from the US - Fires in the Distance. Both albums are fantastic, and below is a song form their second album for you to check out

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)
