Afternoon Run - 11.5km (I'm gonna need a bigger bag!)
dannewton just finished a 11.62km run, that lasted for 70 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 930.0 calories.
Description from Strava: Its been bit of a rush this evening. I finished work at 4pm, and needed to head straight out to get a parcel posted to my partner at university. I needed to fit some food in somewhere, and I had already arranged to talk to my partner in a zoom/teams thing online at 7pm
time was gonna be tight...
Fortunately I managed to finish right on 4pm, and even more fortuitously there were no queues at the Post Office for once, so after posting the parcel I hurried back home to get changed to head out
I guess I could've run to the post office, and then carried on running afterwards, but I'm normally that well organized!
The run today called for approx 10km, and with the lightening evenings I decided it was high time I headed back to do a loop around the nearby village of Branston. I did this once at the start of this year, and promised I'd be back, and then promptly forgot all about it!
Better late than never eh?
The first part of the run heads down the back roads (and passes through the farm on the way) before hitting the edge of Branston. From there I ran up to the High Street, and then turned and headed for home via the bypass. It actually worked out at 11.5km, which will do nicely.
In other news, I dug out my kit list for the upcoming race in Skegness, and thought I would try to see if it would all fit into my tiny backpack. I was expecting it to be tight, but as you can see from the cover image, it was a complete non-starter! With the bladder filled to 1 liter, I struggled to get my coat in there, and there was no chance of squeezing in my headtorch, hat, gloves... and I still need snacks somewhere too.
I know that I will wear some of this, but even with wearing the coat and hat, it will still be snug. I also don't want to be forced to wear a coat for the whole 4 hours if I don't need to, as that will result in me being very hot and bothered and not actually enjoying the day.
There is only one thing for it... I'm gonna need a new backpack.
Currently looking at the Harrier Cubar 5L Race Vest, but am open to suggestions or advice from fellow runners!
It is payday in 4 days, so I've got time to have a look at the various options (and countless youtube reviews) to find a suitable solution, and hopefully it will be delivered quick enough that I can test/practice with it before race day
Race day ETA is 31 days and counting!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)
This is an automated post by @strava2hive and is currently in BETA.
Keep going, you're smashing your training at the moment and getting stronger every day.

I have no pack suggestions as we have different brands here in Australia but 100% agree with you; having to wear the jacket (or even having to wrap around your waist or the bag itself) is less than ideal. A new pack (or as new and pre-loved?) sounds like a wise plan. 🦉

@dannewton! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @consciouscat. (1/10)
The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want.

Considering how simple a running jacket/vest/bag thing is, there does seem to be a million different variations on a theme.... and then wading through reviews, some people loving some brands, other loathing them with a passion!
So yeah, a new bag is required, and will be bought... what that ends up being, who knows!

Our Salomon back packs seem more light weight and have 2 really stretchy pockets at the back. From memory they were expensive even on sale at more than $150 AUD. I suppose out here we generally only use light weight jackets on our hikes and runs and they squash in easy but you may need more.

!BEER
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check them out and see how they compare. The biggest issue I have is there is no big 'running shop' round here, so what ever I pick will be online, and I'll find out how good or suitable it is when it turns up.
The brand I'm eying up apparently has a reputation for decent quality at an affordable price, so at least, it won't break the bank. Watch this space I guess!

It still seems a lot to take even on a marathon. How much would you actually drink in that time? I know specialist running gear can be expensive, but I have avoided buy much apart from shoes so far.
The weather keeps changing lately, but at least we get more daylight. Have fun.
!PIZZA
Agreed, but thats what I've signed up for, so I might as well get on with it...
I still reckon its mostly cos it's a small local event, and the organizers want to make sure we can take care of ourselves
And thinking positively, this marathon isn't the end goal, its just a stepping stone to bigger/longer distances, and I'll need the kit for that so I might as well do this properly :-)
