dannewton just finished a 16.73km run, that lasted for 103 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 1372.0 calories.

Description from Strava: Wasn't feeling overly motivated today. Not sure why, but a weeks worth of poor sleep has not helped. I was due to go for a run first thing this morning, but when the alarm went off at 8, I felt flippin' awful and chose to stay in bed to see if a lay-in would help.

It didn't by the way...

Eventually, grudgingly, I got up at 11 as I had stuff to do. It was my nieces first birthday today. Well, technically it was next week, but we all went round for a little get-together over lunch. There was cake (which is always exciting) and after my niece had opened various presents and playing with the paper and the envelopes instead of the actual toys, she had a nap while the rest of us talked and caught up.

I don't spend enough time with my brother and his wife really, which is pretty poor considering he only lives a few miles away. I really need to work on that.

After cake etc, I headed back home. I thought about postponing my run until tomorrow as I still felt rubbish, but in a rare decisive moment I decided to go out and get it done anyway. Todays run was scheduled to be 15km and I decided I would just run up the bypass, all the way along the new section (which has a path along side) and then back. It tuned out to be 16.5km when done which will do.

As I was feeling unmotivated I thought I would put some music on for a change, and to see if it helped

Answer - it didn't!

I don't know why people run with music, it stops me from being able to pay attention to my body, and to be honest it stops me from getting into 'the groove'.

Anyway, still tired, grumpy and headachey, I mooched up along the bypass, until I reached a road sign (pictured). On the sign it shows the road to take to reach Skegness, which is a small town on the Lincolnshire coast. It is also the location of the upcoming race I have entered and is due to take place 2 weeks today.

It was a very useful reminder of why I was out here plodding along even though I didn't quite feel right. And while I still felt rubbish for the rest of the run, it felt a little bit easier knowing this and knowing the reason for doing this.

I'm currently tapering (ie decreasing my mileage to be fit and ready when I'm on the start line) hence why I only ran 16km today instead of the usual 22km-30km I would run on a weekend. Perhaps that explains the reason for feeling out of sorts, I'm currently treading water of sorts, as I'm waiting rather impatiently for race day. And I'm having to cut back on my training at a time when I just want to run and run and run.

The race starts in 13 days, 8 hours, and 46 minutes

But I'm not counting honest!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

Sometimes I don't feel much like running, but a lack of sleep would not help. Have a race coming up does focus the mind. I always listen to podcasts when I run unless it's a race. I just a lot I want to get through and that's a good time for it.

Stay strong.

Sometimes I don't feel much like running

It is hard to judge at times... am I just feeling 'lazy' and need to grind out a run, or am I genuinely ill and need the rest day. I know some people who go by a '10 minute rule' whereby if they don't feel right they just head out for a little run for 10 minutes. If they feel ok, then they carry on, and if they still feel awful then they abort the session and walk home.

I don't think I've abandoned many runs. I try to keep going. I just can't get out every day like some people.
