dannewton just finished a 6.33km run, that lasted for 56 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 520.0 calories.

Description from Strava: Went for a run a little later than planned today. I was working from home and was aiming to finish at 4pm, which would meant a chance to run some unexpected afternoon sunshine... but my partner had other ideas.

I'm just going to go check on the allotment, I won't be too long. Oh and I have some parcels coming later today, are you able to sit in and wait for them?

Er... I guess so, don't really have choice do I?

Eventually both parcels turned up at 6pm, and I quickly got changed to head out to enjoy the sunshine...

Oh.

There was sunshine earlier I promise!

Looks like the weather has turned again, and the rain is on its way to settle in for the evening. It wasn't too bad during the run, but writing this up now, its grim outside... yuk.

Today was the same as the last session, and the one before that, and the one before that... you get the picture. A bit of running, a bit of walking... just trying to get back into the swing of things really.

I'm pretty confident I can run the whole 6km now, but I still think that's too much too soon, and I'd regret it afterwards. So even though I feel able, I'm trying to remember to take some walking breaks

One way of trying to focus on something else is checking my heart rate on my watch

I know its only a rough estimate, but good enough for what I need it for

It shows my heart rate, along with which 'zone' I am in

For these slow run/walks, I would aim for between zone 2 'Easy 'and zone 3 'Aerobic' I guess, and every time that creeped over to the 'Threshold' zone then that would be a sign I'm over doing it and need to slow down to lower my heart rate.

And as you can see from that little graph.... I need to try harder at this lol.

Anyway. Thats another 6km of walk/run ticked off for the week. There will be a couple of days rest for Thursday and Friday, and hopefully I might be giving parkrun a go on Saturday

the weather forecast is currently dry for Saturday morning, so keep your fingers crossed it stays that way!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

Such beautiful weather, such a beautiful place, walking is a pleasure in itself, how you have traveled a long way today.

Heart rate zone !LUV it. I usually just focus on shortening my strides to lower the heart rate.

Yep! Figured I'm running so slow at the moment I might as well try to get some benefit out of it

thats a useful tip (although with my little legs my strides are already pretty short haha!)

I'd have got pretty wet if I'd run after work yesterday rather than before. It must be one of the wettest Julys ever. The weather is really messed up and that's scary.

its pretty grim out there at times, and yep the weather is all over the place at the moment, seems to be all or nothing. Either 40C or floods, theres no in between.

The news said today some places had seen record rainfall

Dan I salute you mate. I walk on average around 6 miles a day, and not at a fast pace. And I need to rest when I get home lol. So to go out, deliberately, to run, is something I can't get my head around. Although I know I am impressed. You seem to be smashing it mate.

ah well thats partly why I do it, I barely walk anywhere with an 8 hour desk job, so really feel the need to get outside and moving later.

It also helps with general mental health etc... and I always feel better afterwards, no matter how tired I am, or how wet it was!
