Folks,
Missed a day
3rd of May
Not for lack of trying
Ran out of Resource Credits
And I didn't even know...
Writing too close to midnight
Again
Went to send my Actifit post Blockchain says no The clock ticks over to 00:00 Sorry kid, you had your chance ... Learning more about Hive every day There's a great many highly talented, interesting and unique people here, doing their thing It's inspiring You are the reason this network is great Here's to you, everyone ... Imagine being able to tag every user on Hive... Hi @everyone! Check out my mediocre post! Alright, so here's the thing The flukey thing From the archery day The day before yesterday See the post for more context ... I'd hired a recurve bow and three arrows from the club, plus a quiver for carrying them $5 for the day I was with a mate from work, who's an experienced archer, and a member of the club ... I started with a few practice shots in the newbie range Where I had "right of way"
Then over to the courses for a round We went for the Kestrel Course There's twenty targets spread out around this big patch of scrub that makes up about half of the total archery range The idea is you start at target one Incredible! Shoot a few arrows at it Walk over, extract them (Or find them on the ground if you've missed) Then move on to the next one You have to wrench the arrows with a bit of force to get them unstuck from the target (I was shooting pretty close range, as a total amateur) They're all fairly spread out too, making a round of twenty a decent hike ... Nice surroundings Hilly, with trees, shrubs and a soaring view down to the distant ocean As you can see above, the targets themselves are essentially big bags filled with... something I don't know ... So off we go Firing a couple of arrows each at the first target Then moving up to collect them I pull my three arrows, drop them into the quiver and start walking to the next one As we're approaching target number two, I notice one of my arrows is sticking out a bit higher than the rest I try pushing it down Won't move "What...?" Thinking the arrowhead is caught somewhere inside the quiver, I pull it out for a look It takes me a moment to realise what's happened The penny drops There's another arrow stuck to the end of mine Actually, half an arrow The half with the pointy end ... It was embedded within the first target! And the point of my arrow landed in just the right spot to wedge itself inside the snapped-off end Unbelievable! I didn't even notice when I first pulled mine out, but it was jammed on tight Like I said earlier, you have to kind of wrench your arrows free from the target So it was surprising that the half-arrow had stayed on through that ... I learned in that moment that you can use the words Robin Hood as a verb, and archers will know exactly what you're on about Robin Hooding an arrow refers to that extremely difficult trick, probably confined more to the realm of myth, of so precisely firing your arrow that it splits your opponent's arrow lengthways while hitting the target ... Talk about beginners luck And being totally oblivious I hadn't even noticed that one of mine had substantially lengthened until I'd moved on to that second target ... We had a laugh Wondered out loud "what are the chances...?" And I kept the half-arrow as a souvenir Archery! What fun
