16th Edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) starts tomorrow 31st March'23

Hello and welcome to all the readers

The inaugural Women's Premier league completed on 24th March'23 with Mumbai Indians women as the champions.

Now its men's turn, the 16th Edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) starts tomorrow, 31st March'23

This year the matches will be played all over India. With each team playing 7 home and 7 away matches.

10 teams divided into two groups of 5 teams will compete for the trophy.

The format remains the same as last year, the only difference is home and away matches. This is now possible as there are no covid restrictions. This gives the home teams an advantage in home games.

New Rules

  1. penalty of 5 runs on the fielding side if unfair movement of fielder or wicketkeeper happened and the delivery will be declared dead by the umpire.
  2. The captains are now allowed to declare playing XI and impact player list after the toss. This makes game more interesting.
  3. If any team failed to bowl overs in allocated time, then only four fielders will be allowed outside the 30 yards area for the remaining overs.
  4. Teams can now also review wides and no-balls using DRS.
  5. Impact Players, where teams can name four substitutes for a match in addition to the starting XI. Only one can be used as substitute during the match.

The tournament:

70 round robin matches, Qualifier1/Eliminator, Qualifier2 and Finals on 28th May. Almost 2 months of non-stop cricket.

First Match

The first match will be played between Chennai Super kings and the defending champions Gujarat Titans.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni v/s Hardik Pandya at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Gujarat Titans - David Miller, Hardik Pandya, Odean Smith, Alzaari Joseph

Good start to the tournament last night. If CSK had better death bowling options I think they could have won that match ...

Yes, death bowling let them down. They are missing few international players. I am sure CSK will bounce back.
