Final real run before race day - Night run

I just finished a 13.025km running that lasted about 1hh:02mm:38ss !

I skipped Wednesday run again because of the rain, but Thursday was my last chance for a real run before the race on Sunday. I started even later than usual, after 10pm, and I thought I would go for an easy 10k. But for some reasons, I felt pretty good, I kept adding distance, and in the end, it's more than 8 miles. My pace was also faster than expected. I made sure to never push myself into the red zone though, it actually felt comfortable the whole time, but the overall pace around 7:45 min/mile is definitely better than the easy run I had in mind. I even had enough fuel to pick up the pace in the last few meters, but again I didn't go all out because I felt the adductors starting to get tighter, and there was obviously no reason to stupidly get an injury at the very last minute. The heart rate data says a different story for some reason. If I trust it, my average was at 176bpm, which is very close to my theoretical maximum. I should not be able to sustain it for an entire hour...

Like I already mentioned, temperature seem to have a big effect on my performance. This run is a good example. It was down to a chilly 45F or 7C when I started and that made it easier probably. It's supposed to be lower on Sunday morning, possibly in the high thirties, around 3C. I like it to run, but that will bring the usual question for a half marathon in Detroit in October: what to wear while waiting in the cold for the race to start? Unless you find something you can throw away after a mile or so, it's not easy!

Well, I hope this run wasn't too much just 3 days before race day. It's good for morale though. Even though my training was kind of broken again this year, this run gives me a little hope for Sunday half marathon. I need to force myself to start a little slower, and hopefully I can finish without walking like last year. Friday will be a rest day, except for the dog walks of course. A very short and slow run on Saturday, and the race on Sunday!

October totals looking better, well running only of course:

Hi mate, if you don't have anybody to throw your longsleeve or pullover to just before the start adn you don't just want t throw away clothes, a plastic bag could help. You can cut out a hole in the button and put your head through it. Got to keep your arms down though. Or you cut holes out if it's a large bag. You can use as well one of these throw away ponchos, I don't know if they still make them (you know the green war against plastic) It could cost you 1 EUR but it keeps you dry and/or warm when waiting for the start. Good luck tomorrow! !PIZZA

Thanks for the idea! It's too late to find large bags, but it reminded me I had stashed somewhere some of these heat blankets they hand out every year at the end of the race. They're thin, but that should help me till the running starts, and then it should be good. I actually like better cold weather running.
Have a great Sunday, !ALIVE

A heat blanket is optimal. But since it's not so easy to find one quickly and they aren't that cheap, I didn't come up with that one. Amyway if my idea brought you to thinking about a heat blanket taht you still had at home, I'm glad that I've been helpful. Looking forward to the result now!! !LUV !PIZZA

Not sure about the price as they hand out gazillions of them after the Detroit race every year. It helped a lot this morning. As for the race, I'll write a proper post tomorrow, but it was tough and a bit disappointing. Still under 2 hours, but not under my 1h50 target. Better next year... !lolz

Oh really, I especially had to go and buy one in a specialized shop before to be able to participate in a mountain trail... Anyway... I'm glad they put these kind of conditions because such a trails can be dangerous, there's a high risk for accidents and this is a good emergency tool not get undercooled! About the race... You've got another year to train for it now ;-) !LOL !LUV

Yep, I hope this time my training is not interrupted like it was this year. Let's see if I can stay a bit more committed. I never considered myself a runner, maybe it's time to change that, since I stopped all other team sports, at least for now.
Have a great Friday, !ALIVE

I used to play a lot of soccer (I guess I lived in the US too long, I don't even say football anymore !lolz) and basketball. At some point, I was playing with 4 different football teams, and at least a couple hours basket-ball several times a week. I guess that's probably why I didn't need any training just for running...

Thanks! No real pressure, but I can be really competitive and not being able to match my previous times is no fun !lolz
