Po weekendowych problemach wydawało się, że wszystko idzie w dobrą stronę.
Kot oddychał spokojniej, wrócił apetyt, zachowywał się prawie normalnie. Pojechaliśmy więc na umówioną wizytę do kardiologa w Skoczowie z nadzieją, że najgorsze już za nami.

Badanie pokazało jednak coś dużo poważniejszego.
W płucach faktycznie było mniej płynu, ale za to worek osierdziowy wokół serca był mocno wypełniony wodą, która zaczęła uciskać serce. Weterynarz powiedział wprost — w takim stanie kot mógł dostać zawału praktycznie w każdej chwili.

Opcje były dwie.
Leczenie farmakologiczne w domu i liczenie, że płyn zacznie schodzić powoli, albo zabieg w narkozie i natychmiastowe odbarczenie serca. Problem w tym, że po ostatnich przejściach sama narkoza też była ogromnym ryzykiem.

Żona w łzach, więc trzeba było podjąć decyzję.
Uznałem, że nie będziemy przeciągać tego tygodniami i męczyć go kolejnymi dawkami leków, które mogłyby rozwalić nerki albo wywołać następne komplikacje. Robimy zabieg.

Całość trwała niecałą godzinę.
Znieczulenie, odciągnięcie płynu i wybudzanie. Po 18 dostaliśmy telefon, że kot się wybudził i wygląda stabilnie. Z worka osierdziowego ściągnięto ponad 150 ml płynu — ilość, która realnie zagrażała życiu tak starego kota.

Wieczorem wróciliśmy razem do domu.
Na ten moment wygląda dobrze. Oddycha spokojniej, normalnie chodzi i znów interesuje się miską. Teraz pozostaje obserwacja, liczenie oddechów kilka razy dziennie, leki przeciwzakrzepowe i małe dawki leków odwadniających. Za tydzień kolejna kontrola.

Na razie po prostu czekamy i mamy nadzieję, że staruszek jeszcze trochę z nami powalczy. ❤️

After all the weekend chaos, it finally looked like things were getting better.
The cat was breathing more calmly again, his appetite came back, and he was acting almost normal. We went to the cardiologist appointment in Skoczów hoping the worst was already behind us.

Unfortunately, the examination revealed something much more serious.
There was indeed less fluid in the lungs, but the sac around the heart was heavily filled with fluid, putting dangerous pressure on the heart itself. The vet said it clearly — in this condition, he could suffer a heart attack at any moment.

There were only two options.
Either treat him at home with medication and hope the fluid would slowly disappear, or perform a procedure under anesthesia to remove the fluid immediately. The problem was that after everything he had already been through, the anesthesia itself was also a huge risk.

My wife was in tears, so I had to make the decision.
I didn’t want to drag this on for weeks and put him through heavy medication that could damage his kidneys or create even more complications. We decided to go ahead with the procedure.

The whole thing took less than an hour.
Anesthesia, draining the fluid, and waking him up. Around 6 PM we got the call that he had woken up and looked stable. More than 150 ml of fluid was removed from around his heart — an amount that was seriously life-threatening for such an old cat.

Later that evening we finally brought him back home.
For now, he looks much better. His breathing is calmer, he walks normally again, and he immediately became interested in food. Now it’s all about observation, counting breaths several times a day, blood-thinning medication, and small doses of diuretics. Another check-up is scheduled for next week.

For now, all we can do is wait and hope the old guy still has some fight left in him. ❤️
