Quality time! School holiday & lunch run
Hi everyone!
Currently my kids have 6 weeks of school holidays - which means we have to puzzle a bit with work and off days to ensure we have sufficient time for work and there is someone around for the kids.
Most of the times my wife and I handle it ourselves, but a few times a year my parents take to kids for a sleepover and spoil them with very cool daytrips - which is also the case today!
Fridays are normally my days with the kids so this meant some extra free time! In the morning my wife was able to reschedule some of her appointments so we could have a morning walk together (+/- 8km walking) after lunch she went away to see some clients!
While I had some chores due such as painting the outside of the house, I decided to first go for a short run.
Regardless of some light rain, I was quickly lost in my mind - basicly daydreaming (positive thoughts!) but after the first crossroad I needed to check my watch to determine I was only running for 3km so I had some more miles to do!
While I wasn’t trying to set a pace I noticed that I was keeping a steady 5.15 min / km in lower zone 2. So I tried to maintain that in unpaved routes aswell - even in high grass it went quite well! (This part of the route seems to stay a hidden gem for runners in the area, as I basicly only come across hikers once in a few weeks!)
After finishing the unpaved route I tried to increase my pace a little doing a few 400 meter dashes at 3:15 / km. Which went better than expected - so that is definitly something where I want to try and build on moving forward!
Apart from 10 min of light rain, I made it back dry. As the weather was way better compared to the weekend, the unpaved route was not swamp-like so basicly I had a perfect lunch run!
Happy running

Would have loved to see your legs if it was all swamp like 😂
Nice to see it's mostly dry in NL 🌞

The dry pavement is always a good motivation for a good run. 6 weeks is a really long time to stay at home. I hope you enjoy this time with your kids as much as you can.
