Christophe Laporte wins the 2023 Gent-Wevelgem

On Sunday 26 March, Christophe Laporte of team Jumbo-Visma won the 2023 Gent-Wevelgem, one day race in Belgium. Laporte who came second last year, was victorious in the 75th year of the 260.9km world tour event. The race passes through a wide variety of historic sites of the First World War. Laporte teamed up with Jumbo-Visma team mate Wout van Aert with 52km to go, to form a break away in the rainy weather, both riders swapping turns leading to finish first and second for the day.

In the 2023 women’s race, Marlen Reusser had a decisive victory for SD Worx over the 162km race. She rode away from the peloton late in the race during a wet and rainy day ahead of Megan Jastrab who came in second for Team DSM.

Bradley Wiggins Has Reported Using Cycling As A Distraction After Three Years Of 'Abuse'

Bradley Wiggins, the winner of the 2012 Tour de France has claimed he suffered ‘borderline rape and sexual abuse’ when he was 12 at the hands of a coach. Recently, he has opened up and provided more details about his dedication of cycling as a distraction after suffering what he describes as abuse by a coach from the age of 12.

He first alleged of the abuse in 2022 during an interview with Men’s Health, but refused to name the coach who he suggests was grooming him. He has also been passionate in launching a new campaign as part of the NSPCC to help people learn the signs of child abuse and how to blow the whistle when they see it.

The "Listen Up, Speak Up" campaign can be found at the following link: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/support-us/listen-up-speak-up

Primoz Roglic Wins The Volta A Catalunya Title

Primož Roglič of team Jumbo-Visma held off rival rider Remco Evenepoel to** win the overall title for the 2023 Volta A Catalunya in Spane. Both Roglič and Evenepoel broke free of the peloton with 28kms to go in the final stage. As they approached the finish line both riders tried to accelerate away from each other **with Evenepoel accelerating away in the final 100m to claim the final stage of the Volta a Catalunya in Barcelona and his second stage win of the race. The second place for the stage gave Roglic enough to take the title for 2023. Both riders will be racing against each other in the Giro d’Italia in May, so this is hopefully a good indication of the racing that will take place in May this year.

Nice! I've been missing this type of articles for a long time. Yet I've been too lazy to take action! Thanks a lot :) Perhaps one day I write something similar...

The Wiggins story is pretty intense...

On a side note, there were also some women races: https://www.bicycling.com/racing/a43454327/dwars-door-vlaanderen-results-women-2023/
Demi Vollering doing a 10Km solo for the win.

Those guys do amazing things. I've never ridden anywhere near 100 miles in a day and I would be left in the dust by them.

There have been a few cases of kids being abused by trainers. I hope things are better now as there needs to be real trust there. The criminals need to be brought to justice.

Thanks for the updates. I do not keep up with much sport news generally, so this is really interesting.

The speed they ride at is amazing. I wish I could come close to the pace they ride those distances. And you are right, it is really sad that a coach would abuse their role like that.

I don't like victories like Laporte. Even though they are team mates I think they should go for their own success.
Jumbo is really strong again this year. They win a lot. I did read their sponsor Jumbo will quit in 2024, so they have to find a new sponsor.

That Wiggins story is really sad 😔
