My New Book Finally Released

Stop Overthinking-01 (1).jpg

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been making some comments in my running posts about a potential new book coming out.

It's always difficult to put these things out to the world because they could possibly fail but I have finally released my new book called "Stop Overthinking And Start Running".

I've written a few technology books over the past few years but my dream has always been to write a book about running. I have had a few ideas over the year, but really wanted to give new runners all the answers they needed to get started running.

Lockdown gave me a little extra time to finally put some ideas down and after some hard work, I decided to delete the first version of this book. And after about three more months of writing, did the same thing again with the second version of the book.

I finally got to a point where I was reasonably happy with the content and have now released this book out into the world. The book trying to encourage everyone and anyone to run, with the main hope to answer all the questions new runners have about running, when they first start their running journey.

Ultimately, I want people to love running as much as I love it.

Taken from the Preface of the book:

The aim of this book is to get as many people as possible running, no matter what age, height or size they might be. By reading this book, it's hoped you should be able to gain an understanding of:

  • How to get started running and create a lasting, sustainable and consistent habit. We'll provide you with easy to follow training plans and some of the details on why it will help you in your running journey.
  • Help you with your confidence, motivation and mindset in getting started and try to help you build a lasting habit that will give you the full benefits of living an active life.
  • We'll discuss how you can get the most out of your running by allowing your body to recover and making better decisions with the food you eat.
  • We then take a look at ways to make your body stronger so you can get more out of your running and provide you with some of the ways to help you avoid common running injuries.
  • Once you have established your running routine and habit, only then we'll discuss how you might look to improve your running and learn about different coaching techniques to take your training further.

If anyone knows of a platform I can use to sell this book using Hive, please let me know.

The book is available on Amazon(of course) but is also available on a couple of other platforms:
Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Stop-Overthinking-Start-Running-physical-ebook/dp/B09MXZJ6JG
Leanpub:
https://leanpub.com/stopoverthinkingandstartrunning
Smashwords
https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/1119532

I've done my best to keep the cost down as much as possible, and think it is reasonably priced for the content. If anyone would desperately like a copy to review, I would be happy to send them a copy if they send me a message on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/vincesesto/.

Now that I have a little more extra time, I am hoping to start doing a little extra run coaching as well. It's been a great process and I really appreciate some of the positive feedback I have already received so far.

Too cool! I'm gonna take a look at this!

I must have missed other posts where you mention it, but I'm glad I spotted this one!

Yeah you bet -- I'm definitely going to order a copy and give it a read!

Do you have a recommended platform for ordering between leanpub and smashwords? I try to avoid amazon whenever possible.

Side-note: I'm currently dabbling around with a system to set up a store on Hive (via another account I've made) so vendors / makers of all sorts (such as yourself, @caitycat, or my personal account @mstafford) can sell their stuff. I'm not entirely certain how you've got everything structured -- but I'll reach out after I get a bit of a proof-of-concept slapped together. I'm hoping to put some time to it over the Christmas break here.

Sounds awesome. Yeah I have been looking to see how difficult it would be to set up a marketplace for Hive. It doesn't look like anyone else is doing it, so should hopefully be of interest to a lot of people. With a platform for ordering, I would say leanpub. Lots of different reasons and not 100% happy with smashwords. Love to know what you think.

That's awesome Vince! I will definitely give it a read. I keep waffling on my running motivation these last few years, so perhaps it will give me a little push to get consistent again in 2022!

Thanks so much for the kind words. It is exciting to finally get this done and hope you can get out and run a bit more in the new year.

Have you looked into @hivelist? People are selling physical products there, including books. It has facilities to work out shipping costs and various payment options. I've see @drwatson is using it for his comic and @stickupboys for their merchandise.

I looked at your book on Amazon and the shipping to the UK was not too bad. $8, compared with $25 for a comic on Hivelist. I expect Amazon can negotiate good rates. I could get the ebook, but it's not the same.

Thanks so much for passing those details on. I am the same with it comes to having a physical book, especially when it comes to running books. I like having the tangible product. I am really glad it is not too expensive for you to get in the UK, cause it is pretty pricey to get sent to NZ($25 NZD). Thanks for passing on the details about @hivelist as well. I will check them out now.

Wooo! Awesome work Vince :) Maybe your fatigue while running had more to do with getting your book out the door than running? One of my favourite running coaches, David Roche, says "The body doesn't know miles, it only knows stress." I find this super useful to remember when I'm struggling with my running because it helps me to put my running into perspective as just one part of my whole, entire life as a human being. Congrats again on birthing a book!

Thanks so much. You might be right on this one as I have found myself with a lot more time on my hands now as a result have finishing the book.
