Morning Run: Tailing the parkrun

steevc just finished a 5.11km run, that lasted for 74 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 299.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
This was actually a walk rather than a run. I volunteered for parkrun and was allocated the job of tail walker, for the first time. This involves just staying behind all the runners and walkers in case anyone has any problems.

After high winds and rain last night it is a lovely morning with blue skies. I actually wore my shorts, but that was partly to avoid my clothes getting muddy. The mud is not too bad so far. My fellow tail walker was another guy called Steve C who had his terrier with him. Just as the runners set off a lady turned up saying it was her first time and she was going to walk, so we kept her company. She was not the only walker anyway.

We had a nice stroll through the pleasant surroundings whilst we chatted. The leaders lapped us very early on. Looking at the results they were not as quick as the winner last week, but then he was really fast.

If you are marshalling on your own then it can be a bit solitary, but this was quite social and you can get to know people better. The other Steve was saying he has run over 80 different parkruns and over 300 in total. I may reach that total some day if I can keep running, but I do not visit many other courses.

This was my slowest parkrun by far, but it does not matter. Apparently some people worry about it affecting their average time, but you do not have to take a token. I found out one of the volunteers was a woman I often see race-walking around Arlesey. She zoomed past as I walked home.

Summer is definitely over as we are putting the pool away. Today is a good one for drying it out.

Run free!

Sounds like a pleasant way to spend part of the day. I used to help out at a running event in Alton as their photographer some years back. I always had fun doing those. I don’t do anything like it these days. I feel that I should do a park run though, not that I’m a runner, I could start.

I find it's a good vibe there. Everyone is out to have a good time, but the burden of organising it tends to fall on a few people, so I feel I should help out.

That often the way, it’s the same with our canoe club. Everyone loves taking part in the main activities but when it comes to organising or trying to find people for the committee, that’s down to a few people. Very few step forward.

Hi! I've been gone for two years (!), but now I might be back. Glad to see you are still running (I am too). Parkruns are such a great thing. :)

Hey, good to see you back! Hope things are good with you. I just keep on running and parkrun is something that inspires me. I still have personal targets to beat there, but I will volunteer when they need me.
