Description from Strava:
The mixed weather continues and it was raining a little as I set out this morning. A lady I often see at parkrun was coming down my road, but she said she would wait for a friend to come along, so I set off at a jog to warm up. I had put on an extra layer, but I took it off for the actual race as it was not too cold. I had been keeping an eye on the volunteer roster in case they needed me, but they seemed to find enough people.

As I approached the station I saw a colleague from work getting out of his car with his son. The young lad has done lots of junior events and wants to do the longer ones. His dad is a keen triathlete and can run much quicker than me, but would have to stay with his boy. It was their first time at Henlow Bridge Lakes.

It was still raining when we got to the start, but it did not last long. The mud patch after the first corner was not too bad really and you can see my legs stayed clean. I was just finding it all a bit hard work today. It was slippery in places and I was glad my trail shoes have some extra grip. The course is generally pretty good through the winter and not a total mud bath like parts of the Letchworth course.

I glanced at my watch a few times and it was not looking too great, but I kept on pushing and had a little left to sprint at the end. I ended up slightly slower than the last couple, but not as bad as I expected.

I waited for my friend and his son to finish. I think the lad was a bit disappointed with his performance, but some days it just does not go as you hope and I would have preferred to be quicker. I was first in my age category, but then there were two guys just ahead of me in the next older one. That gives me some hope I can keep improving.

It is really feeling like autumn now, but I hope to keep running through the winter and be stronger when spring comes around.

Run free.
This run will appear on Hive and earn me something. Let me know if you would like to do that too.
