steevc just finished a 8.8km run, that lasted for 76 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 602.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
Better late than never some say. I did my first parkrun in Letchworth in February 2018, so I ought to have reached 100 long ago, but I was not running every week for a lot of that time and then a certain pandemic intervened. These days I am running or volunteering most weeks, so I have the second milestone of 25 times volunteering that I reached before my holiday. If I do tail walking I can add to both counts in one event, but it will affect my average time. I do not worry about that number.

Milestones

These qualify me for some shirts, but I really do not need more running shirts. I may just get one of them as I will get another Standalone 10k shirt next month.

It was pretty warm out there today. They were recommending not to take dogs. I slightly improved on my time from last week, but was happy enough. I walked home as I did not feel the need to run.

There are many reasons to like parkrun. It is free, the community is supportive and it gets more people active. Anyone can take part if they can get around the course and it really does not matter how quickly you do it. Of course some people are always chasing a faster time, but just walking 5km is an achievement for others. I have made lots of friends there and it is nice to have something where everyone is just out to enjoy it with nobody making money. They do have some sponsors that cover the cost of the equipment and infrastructure, but their branding is fairly low profile. Sometimes people do things just because they are good for society.

I love that parkrun provide so many statistics. I can see the full history of my runs. I have done eight different events so far and hope to get to more. parkrun 'tourism' is popular with people trying to clock up lots of locations, but that can mean a lot of travel and early starts. I would like to at least do more of the local runs.

Events

The next runs shirt I could get is for 250, but that will take a few years. I may clock up 50 volunteers before then. I would also like to get to 100 runs at Henlow.

If you want more statistics, some of them silly, then I recommend the Running Challenges browser extension. They have things like spelling your name with events. With so many in the UK there are lots of possibilities.

Running Challenges

If you are reading this on Strava you can see the full version on Hive. There is an app that will take my Strava logs to create posts that can earn for me. If you are interested in trying this then let me know and I can create an account for you.

Run free.

Definitely! I went out really early and it was already too hot. Couldn't sleep last night..

Apart from Hasenheide, very German :), they all look UK, right?
Do they have Parkrun in the US? I assume they would?

I slept okay now I've adjusted back to UK time.

Hasenheide is in Berlin when I ran in the snow. It was run by Brits. I wanted to do one on my trip, but there are not very many over there. The one in Boston was 5km from the hotel and we were off on a day trip, so there was no time for it. There are none in New York, but then they would need permission from a park. There are hundreds more I could do in the UK.

I ought to get up there some time. I just like to stay in bed a little longer at the weekend if I can.

It's due to cool down next week.

It is amazing seeing you completing that 8.8km run! It's impressive to see your dedication to running and volunteering at parkrun events. Your journey from your first parkrun to reaching milestones like 25 times volunteering is inspiring, especially considering the challenges of the past couple of years. The sense of community and support at parkrun is truly incredible, and it's exciting that you've made friends and found a space where everyone comes together for the love of it, with no profit involved.

I would run anyway, but it's great to have this event and it's near home. Not everything has to involve money.

That's Amazing Steve! Congratulations! The big 100! You can never have enough shirts! You making me want to get some shirts! I wonder what type of rewards we have here! I'm gonna check out the local parkrun scene and see if there are any cool routes close by.

My shirts drawer is full! I need a few shirts for running, but they last a long time. For the 10k there was the option to not have one, but I didn't get one last year as I entered late.

I hope you can find a parkrun. I think South Africa is third behind the UK and Australia for events.

You definitely don't need to many. Just enough to rotate. I don't enter enough races to collect shirts! But I did find a parkrun super close to home. Will go check it out soon when I can arrange for a babysitter!

Morning Run: parkrun 100, at last

Whoop Whoop!

Congrats on reaching the century milestone!

These qualify me for some shirts, but I really do not need more running shirts.

I know what you mean, I used to have a drawer full of event t-shirts, but I rarely wear them after I received them. I've noticed lots of races these days feature a t-shirt as an optional extra, which means you only get a t-shirt if you actually want one. Better for the environment and all that.

The 100 tshirt would be pretty cool though, and like you say it'll be at least 3 years until you reach the next milestone!

Congratulations! Parkrun sounds like a great organization! Plus here's nothing better than burning off a bunch of calories and stress at the same time.

Technology sometimes spoil us, there is a generation growing up with all this sports gadgets when back in the day the best I had to track my time was a G-Shock 😅 keep pushing ✌️💪

I feel lucky to have started running when the technology made tracking it easy. Mind you I used to use a phone that was not so good for GPS. My Garmin watch is great.

Nice job on your 100th park run. That is quite the achievement. I didn't exercise this morning, but I did mow the lawn and that had me sweating like a whore in church. I am pretty sure I burned quite a few calories.

sweating like a whore in church

A lovely phrase :)

I did a little light gardening and was sweating. I did have a nice swim afterwards though.

I also woke up at five o'clock in the morning and went to running in the same way. The wind was blowing cold. It was a lot of fun.
