parkrun 60 - Henlow Bridge Lakes

avatar

Yes, I am running my usual parkrun again. It is just so convenient for me. Mind you, I did find myself leaving home a little later than usual, but I was still at the start in time for the usual briefing. It was looking like a good turnout. I saw a crowd of people crossing the bridge as I arrived at the station. Maybe they parked on the village side, but most people who drive there seem to use the other car park on the far side.

It felt a little warmer today and the course is totally dried up. You just have to watch out for ruts and tree roots. I nearly tripped on a root when I was walking to the start.

Run

My pace for the first lap was not too bad, but I could just not sustain it. I still have a little pain from my ribs and my hip was playing up a bit. I had a mass of people just ahead of me, but I could not catch them. A few others passed me on the last stretch. The dips in pace are all at the corners where you tend to slow down anyway and there is a slightly climb on one. I gave it all I had on the finishing straight, but there was not much speed left in my legs.

I came 44th out of 119. That is a good turnout and I hope it stays high. I may volunteer again in the next week or two. I will be away one Saturday soon, but will see if there is an opportunity for a different parkrun.

I walked a little bit on the way home and jogged the rest. I was really hot by then and needed to cool down before my shower.

Selfie

This was me cooling down at home. I do not take my phone on the run. I doubt the extra weight would slow me down, but it is an extra distraction. I just take my door key and barcode tag on a lanyard.

Run free and stay well.

44th out of 119, I'm just seeing you mention a position for the first time, I don't really get it, you guys make it some sort of competition like a first to finish the lap kinda thing? Also how does one find what position they came? What records it?

It is all timed and the results put online. There are timekeepers and you have a barcode which is scanned to log your position.

I usually come around the top third, which I think is okay considering I am one of the older runners. You cannot really compare with other runners as we are all different, but an element of competition can be fun for some. Other guys my age may have been running all their lives. parkrun is as serious as you want it to be. There are no prizes anyway.

Wow, this is a really cool idea, I don't think they do it in my city, I should check and probably found it.

Everyone doesn't start the race at the same time or do they?

parkrun happens all over the world, but it depends on volunteers to organise it. They get supplied with a few things, but the timing is done with an app. The runs are generally at 9am on a Saturday, but there may be some variations on that.

Okay, cool. So it means if it's not in my city I can actually request for some things from parkrun and begin it in my city, right?

I don't know what the application process is, but you would need permission from whoever owns the run location and there may be insurance issues. It may be detailed on the parkrun site.

Alright, man, got it, if I ever get serious I'll Google it all.
I'm just imagining all the girls I can get if I become the one to bring this thing to my city fun and fitness the good people of my city would enjoy if I bring this thing to my city.

Keep on running!

I was up to 2K in my slightly pathetic one recovery running again. I think I'm a couple of weeks I might get up to 3 or 4. It's a nice thing to be getting back into

Most people can't even run 2k, so you're doing well. You'll soon build it up. Some people just walk parkrun, but at least they are getting out there. I'd just like to make some progress, but I do okay really.

2k is great! Many people can't walk that far and take the car...
Ooh, that rhymes.. hmm, could be for a song for @steevc to write on the subject?
But I'm sure he's done that already, I just haven't heard it yet..
Anyway, keep it up! You'll get there in no time!

I am aiming for 5K, I think if I can get to that and my knee doesnt give in who knows where my little legs can take me. I used to run far longer but something (nobody has a definitive answer) happened to my knee over a year ago and it was goosed for ages!

It would be a fine song. Might need a lot of distorted fifths in the chorus!

😄 Yes, it would need some dodgy chords! haha
That's exactly why I stopped running.. every time I try, it got bad again, even with bandages and so forth, so for me, pain is no gain, and I decided to just walk a littler faster.. 😀
You take care, don't force it! Easy is the word! 😉

I have been taking it supoer easy. No forcing myself to go when it aches a bit. I might even stay at the 2K mark for a while. It never goes away. Thats the annoying thing. It got a lot better but always niggles. That voltarol nonsense is awfully good!

Defo try it. I was at my wits end before I did and I genuinely think it helped mine heal to the point where I didn't have to use it much!

Well done, Steve!
That goes around some lakes there?
Need to check it out, not the running way though.. lol

What's this Actifit about, I keep seeing everywhere? Is that a Hive thing?

It's nice around there with some ducks and geese about.

Actifit is a mobile app that counts your steps and then you can create a post about whatever activities you have done. They have their own token you get in addition to HIVE. I have not used it in a long time and am not sure what else it might do.
