parkrun: The House at Pooh Bin Corner

avatar

I volunteered to help at Henlow Bridge Lakes parkrun again today. The number of runners has been fairly low and other people need a chance to run. There were 72 runners today, so that was a slight improvement on last week.

Finish straight

I was stationed on Pooh Bin Corner, which is at the start of the finish straight. You can see that it was a lovely morning and I was actually getting quite warm. I had a good chat with some of the other marshals as we got organised. There has been a rule change from parkrun HQ that will ban people using waist harnesses when they run with dogs as it seems this is thought to have more risks than a regular lead/leash. A lot of dog owners are not happy with this, but the organisers here feel they have to abide by the decision.

Lodge

I was on the lane that leads up to the old Henlow Grange and I assume this was the gatehouse. It has some nice chimney pots. It is noisy there as the main road is just behind the house. I could still enjoy some birdsong and a robin was singing away in a tree above me. I have heard that birds are affected by human noise as it can drown them out.

I got to see all the runners go past me three times, so I could see some progress of the race. A guy in his 40s was leading the first two times, but by the last lap he had been overtaken by a lad of about 14. You get all levels of runner at parkrun with some mostly walking. I had to wait a fair while for the tail walkers to reach me for the last time so I could pack up the signs and hand in my high-viz.

Selfie

I am going to an open mic tonight, so I need to practice some songs today. Also need to do some shopping.

Have a great weekend.

Looks like a nice location for Park Run. I don't think I have ever been up that way. I was in Bedford the other day which is probably the closest I have been.

I am looking to participate in our local Park Run soon, I keep finding excuses for not joining in but will bite the bullet.

Enjoy the fine weather and the rest of your weekend.

I am often in Bedford as I have family there. Their parkrun is nice. This one can be muddy, but someone said it has dried out for now.

It is a fun event and I find it a good way to start the weekend even if I don't run. I've done 6000 steps today already.

The sun has dried out all the footpaths here too. I went out for a run yesterday and it was really nice weather first thing. I can see that helping out is good too, I know a couple of people who help out in local ones here. There are so many Park Runs in London.

Hivebits blends Hive's blockchain and Bitcoin's ethos. Your effort = your reward. Mine HBIT simply 1-per-day with (no space): ! hivebits or ! HBIT or ! hbit or $ hbit.
Success! You mined .9 HBIT and the user you replied to received .1 HBIT on your behalf. You can receive 100% of the HBIT by replying to one of your own posts or comments. Or, support Hivebits at the official HBIT mine | your wallet | market | tools | connect | <><

This confirmation reply will go off when Resource Credits (RCs) get low. Yet, your hivebits command will still go through and you'll get your HBIT. :)

Hello @steevc. when I read the title of the post, I read not parkrun but parkour, haha. I already thought you decided, in addition to running, to try extreme parkour. Oh no, I'm still laughing. 🤣

I'm too old to be throwing myself off walls. I break too easily.

Yes, parkour is for the young. Only Jackie Chan can jump walls at 67 like young kids, hehe

Looks nice out there. It was warming up for springtime here in northeast USA, but alas we are back in cold season for at least another week. I'm ready to run in the sun!

I've just been sitting on the deck with my coffee. It's not always like this in late March, but I'll enjoy it anyway. Hope the sun reaches you soon.

What a lovely morning for a run. I used to love doing Park Run, but moved an hour away, and there are no local ones. Good on you for volunteering, was always tough getting volunteers in our area. Looks like a really beautiful setting for a jog.

There are several events within a reasonable distance of here, but I can walk to this one. It is a nice course, especially now the mud is drying out. I think I could get a decent time there.

That was very kind of you! Should have taken your guitar!

I don't think they want me singing to them as they try to concentrate on their running. It's a free event, so I feel I need to give something back.

Gorgeous weather and have been outside in short sleeves! How did the open mic go?

Open mic was fun. I wasn't totally happy with my performance, but had some nice comments. Some really good musicians there.

That’s great. Will soon find out if our local pub does similar things.

The first photo has a very beautiful view so I was very eager to be there and when I wake up in the morning to walk there and enjoy the clear sky and clean air there.

And hope you see in Hive Open Mic tonight Steve👌💯🔥

We have some nice areas around here. It wasn't a Hive open mic, just something in a pub, but there was another Hiver there.
