My Biggest Football (Soccer) Biases

I just watched this very entertaining match between Spain and France. Lovely show! A little sad because I was rooting for France and Mbappe, and why I was rooting for them is exactly thw main point I want to talk about.

While watching the match and seeing Spain and Lamine Yamal shine I noticed some jealousy for Spain and Yamal. I noticed although I think Yamal is one of the best things to happen to football I still don't like him like I should, I have some jealousy for him.

I started to dig deep and think, where the hell is this jealousy from. I'm really good with introspection because I'm honest with myself, so it wasn't long before I traced where it was all coming from.

I didn't like him because he plays for Barcelona and he reminds me of Messi.

And I don't like Messi much.

But at the same time I'm not the kind of guy who wouldn't see all the good in a person because I don't like them. In fact I'll tell you that I agree Messi is the best player ever, and even though I love C. Ronaldo more I still think Messi is better.

But I don't like him, I think because first of all he was among the Argentina side that beat Nigeria in the U-20 World Cup. That didn't make me dislike him, but that was one strike. Back then I was also a Manchester United fan (I'm no longer one, and I stopped being one even when Sir Ferguson was the coach), and Messi was the guy who joined in beating Manchester United in the final.

That was two strikes.

Next he was the guy competing with my favourite player Ronaldo and winning him convincingly at it. Three strikes!

I've found that my slight dislike for him has made me not like Barcelona either and to always root for any team playing against Barcelona. This slight dislike also extended to other players like Xavi and Iniesta, some of the best midfielders ever!

Now a new star is born in Barcelona and he reminds me so much of Messi, so anytime I see him, even though I see he's such a great glorious player I usually don't wish him the victory. LOL. A good thing it is not up to me, though, and this guy still wins regardless of what I feel.
