You see different moves in martial arts. There are different ways of striking and defense. The thing is, everything starts with the basics. To defend any strike like punch, slap, and kick, you need to learn parry and blocks.

If you decide to learn martial arts, you will learn the parry and blocks first. If you defend yourself, the attacker cannot do anything. No matter which way he attacks you, you can defend that and protect yourself.

You can watch this video to learn some basic blocks. You can do outside parry to defend against punches and kicks. Outside parry starts from the center. You move your hands from the center to outside. You do not need to move your hands outside of your body. You just need to cover your body so that any attack towards you cannot get in.

When you block, you can move. If the attacker steps forward, you can move to the side or step back to make the distance. Let me tell something. If you have never practiced blocks with your training partner, you will get hurt a little while blocking. Your hands are not strong enough at the beginning.

Keep practicing. You will get used to it. Later, you can block punches and kicks easily. So there is no alternative to training. When you train, you prepare yourself to face a challenging situation. Hope you will find this useful.
