Afternoon Run - 6.5km (running home from work)
@dannewton just finished a 6.69km run, that lasted for 43 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 596.0 calories.
Description from Strava: After a reasonably productive Bank Holiday weekend, it was time to get back to work today. It is my new role, and after a couple of chaotic and overwhelming days last week, I was now ready to start a new week properly, and actually start learning what I need to do
I've mentioned before that I had planed to change the way I commute, so that instead of bussing it everyday, I was hoping to run too and from work on at least 2 days a week, and potentially build up to 4 days of running to work and back.
After the 2 days last week helped me to get my bearing, was going to attempt the first run to work today... but I hit a little snag!
You see, running to work would make me hot and bothered, and so for the sake of both myself and my office team, I would like to shower before starting my shift. I've found a shower room on site, but this is protected by a locked door which requires a pin code
Getting my bag packed last night, I realized that the piece of paper with the code on, was at work, and behind a locked door (and I have no key to that door), which means that I can't get access to the shower room until the office is unlocked, and then I'd be late to start my shift
goddammit...
Instead, I chose to change my plan, and just walk to work today...
I've walked home several times, and know its a comfortable enough distance... and also that it generally takes me approx. 1 hour 20 minutes. The walk would replicate the distance (if not the effort) of running, and besides, I still packed my running gear, so that I would be able to run home afterwards.
I left the house at 6:30, and knew I'd have plenty of time to get there before my shift started at 8am. The weather was pretty chilly (6C), but I just had work trousers and then a t-shirt on, as I knew that by being active, I would warm up pretty quickly.
My shift itself passed reasonably quickly, and I was pleased to discover I had managed to remember some odd bits and pieces from the whirlwind of information I was subjected to last week.
The benefit of the early start time, meant I could finish at 4pm. I quickly got changed and put on my running shoes, and it was time to head home in the sunshine:
It was much warmer than my walk had been in the morning... and as I had a backpack full of my work clothes to carry (leaving work shoes AT WORK helped), I kept a slow steady pace home.
I've previously worked out the distance of the route, and if I go the straightest possible route, I end up with a run of just over 6.5km. This distance in itself is not challenging for me, but having to do this multiple times over the week will take awhile to get used to!
The bonus of the running home is time gained.
Instead of finishing at 5pm, and using the bus to get home at 6pm, by the time I've finished my run and had dinner and a shower, it is often pushing 7:30-8pm. Its a real struggle to fit anything else in, plus time to relax before I head to bed.
Today, I finished at 4pm, was home by 5pm, and had dinner/shower completed by 6pm. I've gained an extra 2 hours each evening, and so can actually get some other stuff done. This evening I've done 2 weeks worth of ironing, and on a different day I will be able to spend up to 2 hours working on my course... as such it is going to improve my work/life/studying balance immensely
Feeling really pleased I took the leap/risk to a new job, just need to get the hang of that too now!

Your actions show that you’re a parasite on the Hive blockchain, and you’re contributing to its downfall. It’s tragic because Hive hasn’t even had a real chance to shine, thanks to people like you who exploit it for personal gain. You milk the system dry, downvote whoever you want, and let your online friends suck up to you as if you’re some kind of god—LOL. But let’s be honest, you’re far from it. If anything, your behavior makes you more like a heartless devil, destroying the very community you claim to care about.

running home from work? wow, you are dedicated. This is actually a really great idea though. I don't have an office but if I did I would do this.
Been wanting to do it for ages, but needed the change in job circumstances
It sounds strange, but changing from 'hybrid' working to 5 days in the office should hopefully improve my work life balance thing
Also helps with time management... instead of travelling home on the bus, and then running, I can run home and do 2 things at once, and get time in the evening to do other stuff :-)
that's a fine plan. I guess you are just the right distance from home. I once commuted over an hour to a rather rough part of town for a job I had and that would be some sort of David Goggins exercise every day.
Thats very true, and I'm also fortunate to have facilities at the place I work to be able to get showered and ready to work (and not stink out the office!), so it is a privilege not everyone gets
er yep! commuting for over an hour each morning would be a step too far for us mere mortals!
i hadn't even considered the showering part but that is nice that they have that for you. If companies actually cared about their staff they would encourage and embrace this sort of "commute."
