Competition - Short words in Danish. My Actifit Report Card: December 13 2021

I have a theory that in any language short, easy words convey the most important concepts for the language’s speakers.

I am living temporarily in Denmark. Although I do not speak Danish, I have noticed that they have 2-letter (even 1-letter!) nouns and verbs. Here are a few:

Nouns:

Å - stream
Ø - island
Æg - egg
Ål - eel
År - year
Bi - bee
By - town
Fe - fairy
Go - bark
Hø - hay
Is - ice
Ko - cow
Læ - shelter
Øl - beer
Rø - beet
Sø - sea
Tå - toe
Te - tea

Verbs:

Bo - to live
Dø - to die
Gå - to go
Få - to get
Må - must
Se - to see
Sy - to sew

Numbers:
En - 1
To - 2
Ni - 9
Ti - 10

Adjectives:

Ny - new
Rå - raw

Plus many pronouns (du, vi), prepositions (en, i, om) etc

I think it should be possible to create a story using mostly these short words.

Danish Competition

Here’s the challenge:

Try to write up a short story - in English - which when translated into Danish would use as many 1- and 2-letter words as possible. For the sake of the story telling, we do not have to care about grammatical forms. I will judge the story based on
a) number of short words and
b) subjective “fun factor”.

I will send 3-2-1 HBD to the winners. Results on Friday with my @actifit post.
