50k of faith, love and perseverance

I wanted to do a symbolic run today, where I would have to show my perseverance – just as we must keep believing and keep fighting no matter what comes our way.

I picked a 50k distance as I never did more than a marathon distance - and ever since we found out the situation I wasn’t able to stick to my trainingsroutine (more important things, right!)

Nevertheless from the 13th onwards hardly any training, let alone long distance specific work. I was expecting it to be difficult today, but that was exactly what I wanted. I wanted to show myself that we will not give up on anything regardless.
As we will have the full results tomorrow, this run also gave some needed distraction from what the outcomes and consequences could be.

Undertrained, but with strong will! Let’s go!

I started to run from my house to my usual hill workout area as there is lots of green around!

After which I went towards Rotterdam, taking the iconic Erasmus bridge

And continuing towards the Maastunnel, the escalators there are very steep and around 37km this was the hardest part of the run as I won’t be standing still - running them at that point was hard but also fun to achieve!

After the Maastunnel I still had 13 km to go and that was where the real run started - but I stayed composed and just focussed on every single kilometer (keeping in control, low heartbeat and stable speed and thats it).

My nutrition plan was simple - every 20 min something (gel, electrolytes or even apple juice) just stay consistent! My heartbeat stayed in zone 2 almost the entire time - which was a very good sign and also allows me to do this more often (either on a slightly faster pace or target 60km)

Now just keeping faith for tomorrow! Hopefully it will all be alright ❤️

Wow. That's pretty epic and I hope your legs are okay. I have been doing some zone 2 running and it can be easier to keep going like that.

That is one big run you put in there today, talk about long distance. Glad you got through it so well and that heart rate stayed right in zone 2! Great job! With everything that's going on things may become more and more difficult to keep to that training schedule, but you have other things in life far more important right now.

It probably felt good to get out and run off a lot of that stress you have. I'm hoping for the best tomorrow for you two, and hopefully the will have some positive news! Let me know how those results come out tomorrow!

Great job today!

Congratulations on your longest run. Undertrained but it did not look like you have lost very much.
