How to Use Elbow Drill - Self Defense

avatar

When you see different strikes for self defense, it looks easy and simple, but you need to practice and get used to the movement. Only then you can use it in real life self defense. We talked about some situations in Self Defense Situation - What Do You Do? - Part 16.

There is a girl in the store and a guy tries to steal her purse. She uses knee and elbow strike, and that's very effective in a situation like this. Sometimes you are in a place you cannot move much because you will not find a lot of space there. You can use elbow strikes when you are in close range.

To do elbow strike for self defense, first, you have to learn the basic elbow strikes. Then you can ask your partner and train with him/her. You will understand it better how each movement works in combat when you practice with your training partner. Here comes the elbow drill.

You can practice different drills. The more you practice the better you will be. Moving your elbow in a certain way and generate power does not seem natural to you unless you spend time in the training. When he gets used to it, it would be a piece of cake.

You are not looking for being in a certain position to attack. You use different strikes based on where you are, and your opponent's position and his movement.

Elbow strike is a very powerful strike. You should know when to use it. If your opponent is far away or even in a kicking range, you cannot do elbow strikes. You have to be in a close range.

When you are in a kicking range, you can kick. If you get in or your opponent moves forward, now you are in close range. So you are ready to do elbow strike, knee charge or whatever you want to do.

Thank you so much for reading this post. Please feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments below. If you like martial arts and want to learn more about self defense, you can check out some of my recent posts. That's it for now.

That is a good one! I love seeing stunts in movies but trying them out?Well, "don't try this at home..." usually scares me off.

Me too. I also love seeing stunts in movies. What we see in movies, that's for entertainment. When you fight in real life for self defense, it might not look fancy.

You can learn martial arts for different reasons. If you want to be someone who can do cool stuff that we usually see in movies. that's cool!

I'm trying to show what can be used for self defense. Thank you so much @teekingtv for your feedback. I appreciate that!
