You practice high kicks for a long time. To do high kicks, you have to have the flexibility, otherwise, you cannot raise your leg. High kicks look good, pretty cool! Yes, you can use it for self defense.
What I am going to say now, maybe you do not like it that much. There are situations and place where you cannot use high kicks. Yes, you read that right. Fight in real life does not always happen in smooth, nice and beautiful places. It could be anywhere at any time.
I wrote a post about Simple Self Defense Techniques You Should Know. If you have not read that yet, you can read it now. Let's watch this video. We will talk about different situations and what you can do to defend yourself.
When you are attacked, the attackers have different intentions. Maybe they want to take your money or take your cell phone. Or, maybe they want to kidnap you and they could have other plans after that or, simply they just want to hurt you.
If you figure out what the attackers' intention is, you can make your move and defend yourself easily. Let's talk about the situation that you see in this video.
In the first situation, you see a woman is walking and when she is down the stairs, two guys appear and try to take her purse. Now if you want to do high kicks, you can, but this is not a good place for high kicks. You can have different opinions.
So you can do elbow strike, palm strike, hammer fist, knee charge, chop and so on. If they just want your money, you can strike and move out of there fast. But if they have other intentions like kidnap, rape, they will come after you even if you give your money. That is something very serious. So your move would be based on that.
In the second situation, it is a flat surface. The problem is, there are three guys in front of her and there is a wall/glass behind her. If she wants to turn and run, she cannot do that. Wait, it shows from another angle. And yes, there is a way in the right hand side. If there is an exit on that way, she can run. That's why it is important to know where you are. You can use it to your advantage when it comes to self defense.
In this video, you see that the girl standing at the same position, defend and counter-attack. You should use reasonable force to defend yourself, meaning, if someone just messes around and does not mean to hurt you that bad, you do not want to hurt him that much. It is based on your situation and the attackers' intention.
There is something that I'd like to mention here. As you see in the video, those guys could not hit her. The thing is, you learn martial art, that does not mean no one can hit you in a fight. Someone can hit you, but you know how to fight back. So don't know no one can hit you in a street fight.
When you fight and there are guys around you to attack, try to move away from the center to the side. If you do that, it would be difficult for them to attack you at the same time, so you are in a better position to deal with the situation.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post. If you find it useful, please let me know. Please feel free to express your thoughts in the comments below.
