If someone slaps you, that might not hurt you that bad. You can feel the pain, but you are not going to die. There are some attacks that are very dangerous, and if you don't do something immediately, you will have big problem. Choke is one of them.
You think if someone chokes me, I will punch him and hit him to the groin. Well, when someone chokes you, can you really do that?
In case the attacker chokes you and apply pressure on your throat, you cannot breathe, how long do you think you will survive like that? This is bad news. Even if you know the techniques but cannot breathe, you cannot apply that technique then.
Maybe you learn martial arts, you know what to do, but when you find something better and more effective, you should use that. As Bruce Lee said,
"Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless and add what is specifically your own."
– Bruce Lee
And it is never too late to learn something new. You have to have an open mind to learn and adapt to the new situation.
When someone grabs your throat, make sure you can breathe, then you are good to apply the technique. If you stand against the wall, you cannot move back, so you have to do something from there. Grab the thumb of the attacker and apply pressure to the elbow joint with your other hand that you can see in this video. When you are able to move the attacker's hand away from your throat, counter-attack and leave the place as soon as possilbe.
In this situation, you can use a little different technique as well. As soon as the attacker chokes you, tight your neck, make it hard and keep your chin down so that you can still breathe. If the attacker chokes you with his right hand, use your left hand and if the attacker chokes you with his left hand, use your right hand. Now grab his thumb and pull it outside. When you grab his thumb and then pull it outside, he will have to release his hand from your throat. Then attack him and get out of there fast.
Thank you so much for reading this. So what do you think will be effective to defend yourself against choke attack? Please feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comment below.
Stay safe. Always be happy!
