When you learn martial arts for self defense, it has to be practical that is applicable in real life. If you learn something and that does not work to defend yourself, that's useless. As Bruce Lee said,
"Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless and add what is specifically your own."
– Bruce Lee
If you learn martial arts in order to participate in the fighting competition, that's sports. We love sports. If you want to do that, go for it. But if you like to learn self defense, that should be based on reality so that you can use it in real life in case your life is in danger.
In this video, you are going to see something that could happen. You are waiting for someone and a guy comes, grabs your hair and drags you from there. No matter who he is, he does not have the right to do that. So what would you do in this situation?
Did you see what the girl did the first time?
She tried to defend herself and threw some knee charge in order to defend herself. Later, what she did to defend herself, that's much better. When someone tries to do something like this, you can give him a signal that he will be in trouble if he does that. For example, you can say you have a boyfriend, he's coming or you have an uncle's shop over there. Or where you are right, people know you over there, so if he tries to hurt you, they will come and it would be bad for him.
Yes, you can keep your hands up in front of the attacker. Remember to keep your hands open, not like a fist. Otherwise, it would give him a signal that you want to fight or you are ready to fight.
If someone pulls you grabbing your hair, you can strike with your hands like that and get rid of it. You see the girl did that successfully next time.
Let's talk about something that might not work.
When the girl gets attacked in the first time, her knee charge does not work. There is a distance between the attacker and the girl. To make knee charge effective, you have to close the gap and then do it. How to do knee change, it would be another lesson for another day.
Let me tell you another thing that you see in the video works, but that might not work always. You see the girl striking with her hands, AKA, palm strike. Sometimes it might not work. The moment you try to hit the attacker, he can move you in another direction. Remember he grabs your hair. He can easily move your head and control your body movement.
So what can you do here?
First of all, grab his hand that grabs your hair. Then it would be difficult for him to control you. Then you can strike. Or you can turn and get rid of the hair grab.
Thank you so much for reading this post. Please feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comment section.
Stay safe. Always be happy!
