Today we’re going to teach you the mid-post move, the rip spin. So today we got a mid-post move for you guys and it's a good move for any player to use, you be a guard or a big man, a post player to use this move. But the first thing is you’ve got to post up. So, when you're posting up, you know the goal is to get as close to the basket as you can. You don't need to face up. We don't want you to. We want you to be able to just turn and score but we realize that they're stronger defenders or sometimes you want to have some space to work with to attack that defender.

So, you're posting up here you know if you can't get close to the basket it's not a bad idea to step to that path and get some space or in some situations you might be pushed off the block and forced to do this so either way if you catch the ball a little bit further away from the basket and don't want to back down your defender, you're going to want to face up. So, if you're a righty we like you to use your left foot as your pivot foot if you can. And if you're a lefty, it's going to be your right foot. For this video, your coach is a righty, so he’s going to catch that. He’s going to be at the post, he’s gonna use his left foot as his pivot foot. That way he’s just comfortable playing with the same pivot foot he’s used to playing with.

Now when you're about 10 to 15 feet, you're going to want to look at the rim, you want to be a threat because if the defender doesn't come out at you that's where you're just going to shoot. If they do come out at you then you want to make sure that you can get by them. So, look at the rim make them come out at you, and for the rip spin, you're going to catch it and you're going to attack in this case I'm going to go baseline for this move. It can go middle too, you're just going to want to jab if you're ready to go middle. So, we're going to go baseline, we're attacking here. The first thing you want to do is stay low and extend. You want to cover the distance on that first step so that you can get by the defender and put the ball down.

Notice I haven't picked a pivot foot up, the ball is going to hit the ground. So, we're coming here putting the ball down you want to put that second dribble down and, in this case, you're going to use two dribbles, you're going to pivot off that left foot. You're coming baseline, dribble, dribble if the defender cuts you off this is where you throw that countering on them. So the defender is right here I can't get by them that's okay because they over-committed leaving the middle of the court open. You get that last dribble spin, plant that foot, pick the ball up, turn into your hook shot.

Alright, So, we’re going to show you this in the video a couple more times with a little overlay so you can get a better feel for this drill.

And that's it. I hope this training video helps you guys with your mid-post moves. To all basketball players out there who want to improve themselves, stay tuned for more of these training videos. See you around!
