Principles Of Control - Self Defense

avatar

When you are in a fight, the question is, who is controlling who?

When you attack your opponent, attack him with a strong defense. If you give him a chance, he can exploit that to attack you. This is a basic principle.

In this video, you will see how to keep your elbow down while attacking the opponent. Even when you defend or get in to control his head, keep your elbow down. If you lift your elbow or keep it up, your opponent can attack you. And you will in a problem.

When you stand in a fighting stance, you are protecting your body from possible attack, and you are ready to defend and attack at the same time. You usually bend your knees and keep your knees outside a little, so if someone kicks you, it will turn, not break. You can see different variations of fighting stance in different martial arts styles.

Although there are some differences between the two martial arts, but the principles are the same. So don't keep your elbow up in a fight.

What I'm saying here, it is a matter of practice. You have to spend time in your training. Then different moves in self-defense become like second nature to you. You do not have to remember what to do. You will do it automatically. And that's what you need in real life for self defense.

The thing is, you will not remember what to do and each technique step by step in a fight for self defense. You will be under pressure and you might get nervous. If you spend time to practice, you do not have to remember the techniques, you will make your moves observing the situation.
