The Lead Hand Hook

Whether you learn martial arts or not, we all are very familiar with one strike. That is punch. Everyone can throw a punch. Do you know you can punch in different ways? Let's talk about the hook.

Hook!! What's that?

Hook is not a straight punch. If you watch a boxing match or MMA, I'm sure you see this strike. Sometimes hook is short and sometimes hook is long. You might be wondering whether the short hook works or not.

Every strike is there for a purpose. If your opponent is too close, you can use short hook or if your opponent moves forward to attack you, you can step back and hook.

If you want to see how to hook, you can watch this video. It is never too late to learn something new. :)

When you hook, you strike with your hand, but the whole body will work with it. You should twist your leg and moves your hip to generate more power on your strike. You can spend some time to make the hook right first. Then you can give speed and power on your strike.

You can ask your friend to train with you. It will give you good idea how to use it in combat. I already made some posts about different strikes for self defense. If you are interested, you can see the following posts.

Basic Elbow Strike In Self Defense
Palm Strike vs Hammer Fist In Self Defense
Basic Kick Everyone Should Know

When it comes to self defense, you can use your body as a weapon. You can strike with your fist, palm, finger, elbow, knee, leg, shoulder and so on. Before doing that, you have to know how to use it and spend some time to practice.

Thank you so much for your feedback and support. I really appreciate that. If you like martial arts and want to learn more about self defnese, you can check out some of my recent posts. And please feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Take care. See you around!

Thank you very much for all this information
I wish you a splendid day dear friend

Yes, you are right. Some strikes look nothing special, but that's a powerful strike. There are great martial artists out there, maybe they are not writing posts. I'm sharing that I think people find it useful. And I am open and ready to learn from others.

I appreciate your feedback! See you around :)

Thank you so much @aceace for your suggestion. Whenever you share a video from YouTube, you can get the link and source from that video. Still, I mention the source of the video in the post below so that people do not think that's my video.

Sometimes I talk to the creator of the video what they think of sharing their video on my blog post. I got positive and encouraging responses. I made a comment on Dr Mark Phillips video and got the response quickly. Dr Mark Phillips is a criminal psychologist, high risk security consultant, martial arts and defensive skills instructor.

You can check out his YouTube channel Fight SCIENCE.

I will think about how I can give more credit to the creator of the video. Thanks again for your feedback. I appreciate that!
