Token use cases, also known as sinks, are one of the most important aspects of creating a successful token ecosystem. As new tokens are introduced to the market there needs to be a reason for those tokens to leave the market otherwise the market will be flooded and the value of each will fall as users have no reason to waste valuable assets on them. Fortunately Hive Engine has a great use case built into itself in the form of governance by allowing users to stake tokens to gain token governance within the community. This feature alone builds value in tokens to represent a users voice within a community.

When I enrolled in Hive Engine's ad program in 2019 I had hoped advertising would be a great token sink to compliment the existing token use cases. At the time we had daily impressions in the five digit range resulting in daily double digit ad revenue coming into the economy that helped to remove tokens from the marketplace. This was a very successful endeavor and resulted in lots of SPORTS being burnt from the market while it worked.

Disappointingly the ad purchases from our partner ended later that same year. I found it understandable at the time due to the ongoing conflict from the takeover attempt on the base chain. I understood that token burns would come second to securing the chain we all build from. Unfortunately as the chain stabilized here the timelines for when ads would be disbursed continued to be missed. I no longer believe they will be paid from the ad partners and would like to present an alternative solution.

The Proposal

I would like to end the existing advertising agreement that we have with Hive Engine that has them display ads for us. I would instead like to request taking over as an advertising manager for the site mainly as a way to ensure ads are working.

Thanks to help from @zoneboy I was able to connect with the a-ads.com team. They offer advertising payouts in Bitcoin which allows us to use them as the primary brokerage for advertising revenue that can automatically be deposited to Hive Engine in the form of swap.btc when it meets a-ads withdraw limits. This should create a new source of buy back or even create funds to hold for development needs.

If there are additional advertisers who'd like to purchase advertising space directly in the form of SPORTS I'll roll out an additional solution in the future. For now anyone interested can reach out to me via Discord and we'll get you added as an advertisement. Those funds will be paid directly to @sports-gov and I will take no portion of the funds.

The Costs

Since I'll be using the existing infrastructure from Hive Engine there are no costs associated with making this change. I would only request a refund for this proposal fee.

Proposal Refund (100,000 SPORTS)

I would like to add 100,000 SPORTS as a refund for this proposal cost.

Benefits to SPORTS

SportsTalkSocial.com has been displaying ads for over a year with no benefit to the tribe. This proposal will replace the existing advertising with ads primarily from a-ads.com to create a new revenue stream for the tribe to benefit from. Revenue earned from a-ads will automatically be withdrawn to @sports-gov's swap.btc address on Hive Engine when it meets a-ads requirements. These funds will be available for the community to use as they see fit via the existing proposal system.

How to Vote

@sports-gov will reply to this post with two comments. If you'd like to see this proposal pass then upvote the YES comment with any % upvote.

If you would not like to see that these changes implemented then please upvote the NO comment with any % upvote.

I support this being that it will generate revenue for the tribe. The revenue could be used to pay for the revamp of the frontend.

@patrickulrich I missed the part here about who will the ads be shown for? We had this talk on Discord, but not sure what it came down to.
Will these ads be shown for all or was there a staked limit that you talked about before?

It's not addressed here. The showing of ads is handled by the condenser code on the site and will need to be updated there. I didn't want to put a PR for that in this specific proposal as I didn't want to create any more controversy than needed. I wanted to be sure there was support for moving away from the old advertising solution and then move towards changing the display aspects after were sure it was set to a productive source.

Great to see it. This will be a big part of driving the tribe forwards.

I appreciate the support. I think this is the first of many potential ways we can buildout @sports-gov to get more resources coming into the tribe. It'll be nice having resources available for devs to request funding from or to even just be able to resume buybacks.

It will push the token price and create more interest in the tribe itself. If you do set aside a portion for dev work you can then keep adding upgrades and make a better user interface for the tribe to go with it.
Light accounts and proper curation would be big wins for any blogging site.

Is the a-ads data accurate ?

Can you post a report of how much we are earning in BTC per day from the ads on an average ?

Irrespective of above answer , will upvote .

To the best of my knowledge. I switched them on February 4th so I don't have a lot of data but here's what we have so far under the a-ads Stats.

As for earnings we've made 0.00017220 BTC over the last week. They require a 0.001 BTC minimum for payout so I imagine it'll take us roughly a month and a half at current usage for a payout. That might change a bit if we get additional site utilization through new tools for SPORTS. 😉

Well that's not bad . We shall try to increase it , is it possible to post this stats once a week ? Maybe automate it so that we get a better picture of how we are doing ?

Also I would really appreciate if you checked my petition that I posted yesterday .

I was thinking of making it a monthly post about advertising. I didn't want to go weekly because I didn't want site news to take over trending each week plus the charts they use all go by monthly datasets anyways. I wouldn't be opposed to doing it weekly if that's what the community prefers though. I definitely can see where that is useful data the community would want to know about so maybe making an alt account for it would help keep it available but off trending.

Oh yes monthly would be more than enough , no problem as long as it is posted frequently . Monthly indeed gives a better picture :)

Thanks for the feedback . BTW is there anyway I can start the proposal without paying 100000 SPORTS lol .

Can I loan it from you and pay it weekly ?

I'd be happy to pay it front it and we can just put it as a refund in the proposal.

This is comment is to notify current SPORTS stakeholders of the ongoing proposal for changing our advertising structure. To vote simply upvote this comment for yes or this comment for no with any voting power. Your vote is based on your stake so a 1% counts the same as a 100% vote. If you do vote with higher voting power the rewards for those comments go to SPORTS' governance fund.

As it stands there is currently 34.08% of GP voting on this proposal. For a proposal to be considered valid it must have 51% of Governance Power (GP) voting.

As I noted on the last notification I sent out this is a separate proposal from the one about the witness. The Hive Engine witness proposal received 51% of governance voting today and looks to pass. We're still a bit away for this one about advertising though. I encourage you to read above and to vote if you feel this will be good for the tribe.
